🏊♀️ 48 swimmers. Dozens of families. One pool that helped make it possible.
As my 2026 swim season comes to an end, I keep thinking about all of the skills that were learned in this pool this year.
Kids learned to float independently. They learned to jump in and return to safety. They learned to roll onto their backs when tired, tread water, breathe while swimming, move through deep water, wait on designated safety spots, and make safer choices around water.
Some learned all four strokes.
Some swam across the pool independently for the first time.
Some put their face in the water for the first time.
Some of my autistic and nonverbal swimmers learned safety routines, communicated with picture cards, or gained independence with a noodle after years of needing hands-on support.
The accomplishments looked different for every child, but every one of them left with more water-safety knowledge and swimming ability than they arrived with.
And none of that happens without having a place to teach.
I'm incredibly grateful to have access to a pool that allowed me to spend another summer doing something I've loved for decades—teaching children skills that can genuinely save their lives.
Thank you to every family who trusted me with their swimmer this year, and thank you to the people who helped make it possible for me to reach so many children. 💙
