25 years ago, our world was forever changed. The ripples from that day were so far reaching that we can still feel them today. For those who didn’t make it, we remember. For those who ran into danger when everyone else ran away, we remember. For those who answered the call to make sure there is never another 9/11, we remember, and we are forever grateful. ❤️

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day. My friend shared her story the other day so bravely and beautifully. I asked her if I could reshare today, and I’m so grateful that she agreed.

She wrote, “I never realized how much I could genuinely change and grow as a person and survive. I’ve struggled with S.I. (no longer wanting to be on this earth) for many years, since I was about 12. Horses and the people I have met while riding horses have changed my life all for the better. My mom has, my dad, my siblings, and my fiancée. There is so much to live for. Don’t feel alone…”

I am so incredibly grateful that she is here ❤️ She is truly beautiful inside and out as so many of you know. And because of horses, we’ve gotten to be part of her journey in such a positive direction. If you’ve been part of our program, if you’ve donated, if you’ve whispered a prayer for us, you’ve been part of her journey too, and I know the ripple effect is far from over. Thank you from both of us- and many more 🫶🏻

If you are struggling, we’d love to be part of your journey too. Whether it’s through finding your purpose as a volunteer, finding a new passion through riding lessons, or working through deeper issues with Karah Hammontree MA, RMHCI in therapy, you have a place here, and you are not alone.

This right here is my why 🫶🏻

If you want to know why I get up every day, why I work so hard to make sure my horses have the best care, why I push through all the hard days and headaches and heartaches that go along with running this program- here it is.

A young man who’s been waiting so patiently for his turn to climb up on the horse’s back. Three volunteers who gave up time on their holiday (and birthday! Happy birthday Ms Bleecker!!) weekend to make it happen. It made five of us who couldn’t stop smiling and high fiving and truly finding an hour of joy in our day.

At the end of the day, if it’s even one life I’ve touched, one person who is better off because of this place and this program, I’d do it all again…. But I can honestly say now that I don’t think it’s just one… or even just a dozen… and I’m so grateful for each and every rider, every family, and every volunteer who’s been part of it. In November, we celebrate 5 years of having the horses and the program here- and we are just getting started ❤️

It’s been a little quiet on our social media this week, but that’s just because life has been life-ing… Mr Tony was out of town for work this week, which probably explains the other chaos in and of itself, but here are some other highlights:

-We spent four hours with the vet on Tuesday. Some routine stuff, more discussions about Wilson and how/if we can get him sound, a squamous cell cancer discovery on another (that we will hopefully be able to treat with cryotherapy next week), and a lengthy exam to try to get to the root of some lameness issues.
-Wednesday Ginger was feeling a little off. After keeping a close eye on her all day, we decided to make the vet call in the afternoon, but it took a bit to get to us and we got swarmed with mosquitos in the dark during her exam and treatment, but she does seem to be feeling much better now 🫶🏻
-Thursday was a little calmer- monitoring Ginger and managing regular farm duties with both Mr Tony and Ms Zoey gone didn’t leave much time for the socials.
-Today was an obnoxious weather day- not knowing whether to try to hold lessons or cancel for the weather… luckily we got most of them in, but Dominic and I did end up feeding the horses tonight in the pouring rain… Mr Tony is finally back AND the drive shaft on the four wheeler is finally replaced… and lessons and payments for August should be current in quickbooks…

Some weeks are incredible… and some we just survive. This one has felt much more like the second. But there have been bright spots too:

-a parent who thanked me for turning their day around
-my big kid stepping up and being a big help during Ginger’s colicky episode (knowing that he was just as scared as I was after going through everything with Wizard)
-this incredible picture our friend Emma (Emma Medovich ) drew of Stryder 🫶🏻

And why am I sharing all this? Because it’s easy to look at social media and see everyone’s highlight reels and wonder why you’re struggling so hard. It’s ok to share the good and the bad. Some people will never, ever clap for you, and that’s ok- the ones who matter will walk with you through the rough and cheer the loudest during the good 🫶🏻

Over the weekend, Will Nicolai and members of Boy Scout troop 89 completed this fantastic bridge as the first obstacle in our sensory trail as part of Will’s Eagle Scout project! This wooden bridge will allow the students to feel and hear what it’s like to ride their horses on a different surface than the sand they are use to! Swipe to see this weekend’s birthday rider, Axl, who was the very first to get to try the bridge and he reported that it was very fun! Thank you Will & Troop 89 for all your hard work!

Honestly you guys, it’s not often that I don’t have words. But… I don’t have the right ones today. In the past month, we have seen such incredible support, and at a time when we truly needed it the most. I am just overwhelmingly grateful. Our final push for our $5000 match was so successful we literally doubled our goal, raising $660 and completely matching the $5000 🥹.

It’s no secret that I’ve poured my entire heart and soul into this farm, trying to live out what I feel called to do- using my abilities to serve those who are sometimes forgotten- to make a place that feels like home not just to me, but to every individual who steps through our doors carrying the burdens of this world. And to see it poured back from our community, it literally has me crying in the barn this morning. Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” Thank you for giving to this farm and this community in such a way that I truly feel like God has worked through each and every one of you 💞

The search for the perfect horse is just beginning, and we promise to try our very hardest to get it right 🙏🏻
