💡 Losing weight isn't the same thing as losing fat.
And this distinction matters.
With GLP-1 medications changing the way many people approach weight loss, we're hearing a lot about how quickly people can lose weight.
But the question I think deserves more attention is:
What happens to your muscle while the number on the scale is going down?
When you're eating less, getting enough protein becomes especially important.
So does resistance training. 💪
Because the goal shouldn't simply be:
⬇️ “How much weight can I lose?”
A better question is:
💪 “How much body fat can I lose while maintaining as much muscle as possible?”
Muscle isn't just about looking toned.
It helps you stay strong, perform everyday activities, support physical function as you age, and maintain the body you worked so hard to build.
And this isn't just a GLP-1 conversation.
Anyone losing weight should care about preserving muscle.
That means paying attention to protein, continuing to strength train, and avoiding unnecessarily aggressive calorie restriction.
The scale tells you how much you weigh.
It doesn't tell you what you lost to get there.
That's a pretty important distinction.
If you're trying to lose weight, are you paying attention to muscle, or just the number on the scale? 👇
