Bequia Kiai Karate School, Port Elizabeth (yard behind Anglican Church), Bequia,
Wednesdays/Thursda Whatever you hope to achieve... come and have a go!
Bequia Kiai Karate School welcomes everyone to participate, support or get involved with us. Come along to the Dojo, just next to the Rotary Club in Lower Bay on Wednesdays or Saturdays to find out more. As well as gaining strength, agility, fitness and the ability to defend yourself, Karate brings many more everyday life skills. Children gain confidence, find it easier to talk to adults and are
more disciplined at school and in their everyday life. Parents tell us how their children's concentration improves after studying Karate along side their ability to study, to think for themselves and in making informed decision. Our older students talk about Karate helping them reduce anxiety, think on their feet and feeling stronger both physically and mentally. Women are especially empowered and love the feeling of confidence the practise gives them. Started in 2006, Bequia Kiai Karate School is run by Sensei Selwyn Gibson a third degree black belt in Shotokan Karate with over 30 years experience. He runs the school with a passion and humanity that engages his students from the word go. Ranging from 5 year old children right through to grand parents, anyone can do karate. Sensei Gibson runs the school with a philosophy of fairness, discipline and encouragement which benefits all. Sensei Gibson made history in Bequia by raising the first generation of black belts on the island. A group of school aged brown belts are soon to follow. Those same black belts still regularly practise at the school and help teach beginners. Not many people know, but a karate back belt takes around 5-7 years to attain and is internationally recognized as the equivalent to a bachelor's degree! As well as welcoming new students, Bequia Kiai Karate School, as a non profit making organisation also welcome donations and sponsorship from the wider community. Sponsoring a local child to study Karate offers them a great opportunity to progress in life giving them a solid foundation of discipline, confidence, enjoyment and strength in character.
