Alireza Firouzja continues to lead the Grand Chess Tour: Super Rapid & Blitz Croatia 2026!

Alireza Firouzja remains on top of the standings after Day 2 with 10 points from six rounds. It was another strong day for the French Grandmaster, as he defeated Vincent Keymer and Praggnanandhaa R, while drawing with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (MVL).

The battle for the title is still wide open, with four players tied for second place on 7 points. Three more rapid rounds will be played tomorrow, July 3, before the tournament moves into the exciting blitz section.

The Grand Chess Tour: Super Rapid & Blitz Croatia 2026 is being held in Zagreb, Croatia, from July 1–5. The rapid event runs from July 1–3, followed by the blitz rounds and any necessary playoffs on July 4–5.

The tournament features a $200,000 prize fund, with the champion taking home $50,000.

FIDE July 2026 Rating List: Carlsen, Hou Yifan Continue to Lead!

FIDE has officially released the July 2026 Rating List. GM Magnus Carlsen🇳🇴 continues to hold the World No. 1 spot in the Open section, while GM Hou Yifan🇨🇳 remains the top-ranked player in the Women's section.

There are a few notable changes in the Open rankings. GM Vincent Keymer moved up from 6th to 5th, while GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov dropped from 5th to 6th. GM Wesley So climbed from 9th to 7th. Indian star GM Arjun Erigaisi slipped one place from 8th to 9th, and GM Anish Giri also dropped one position.

In the Women's rankings, GM Bibisara Assaubayeva gained two places to move from 7th to 5th. GM Alexandra Kosteniuk returned to the Top 10 by taking 10th place, while GM Kateryna Lagno dropped out of the Top 10.

The FIDE World Cup 2025 Ends with a New Champion!

The 2025 FIDE World Cup ended yesterday at Resort Rio with a warm closing ceremony attended by players, officials and guests. After the Indian and FIDE anthems, top dignitaries were welcomed, followed by a highlights reel of the tournament’s biggest moments.

AICF President Nitin Narang spoke about the effort behind hosting the event, while Viswanathan Anand reflected on India’s rise as a major chess nation. A lantern dance performance added colour to the evening.

The awards were then presented: Andrey Esipenko took bronze, Wei Yi claimed silver and 19-year-old Javokhir Sindarov became the new World Cup Winner, receiving the Viswanathan Anand Trophy. A special message from the President of Uzbekistan and Sindarov’s emotional speech added to the moment.

The ceremony ended with final remarks and a poolside gala, closing a memorable World Cup that delivered strong games, rising stars and three new Candidates.

La Gran Maestra Femenina (WGM) Divya Deshmukh logró una histórica victoria al derrotar a la ex campeona mundial china Tai Shoungy en una intensa partida que superó los 100 movimientos. Con este triunfo, asegura su lugar en el próximo Torneo de Candidatas Femenino.

Ahora, Deshmukh espera conocer a su rival en la final, que saldrá del duelo entre su compatriota la GM Humpy Koneru y la GM china Lei Tingjie.
