On September 1, 1972, Boris Spassky resigned by telephone, ending the 21st and final game of his World Championship Match against Bobby Fischer in Reykjavík.

Fischer won the match 12.5–8.5 and became the 11th World Chess Champion. The envelope features a special caricature 👑♟

The application for the game’s official top-level domain has been submitted to ICANN – the first chance in over a decade to create one. If approved, every federation, club, tournament and titled player will be able to carry a verified domain name ending in .chess.

The 28th Internet Based International Arbiter Certification Seminar was held from 15th to 23rd August 2026. It was organized by the FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess and FIDE Arbiters’ Commission, under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturers were IA Alex McFarlane (SCO), and IA Sabrina de San Vicente (URU), both FIDE Lecturers.

The Language of the Seminar was English.

Twenty-four (24) FIDE Arbiters from twenty-three (23) National Federations (ALB, ALG, BAN, CHN, COL, EGY, GER, GRE, IND, IRI, KEN, MAR, MAS, OMA, PAN, PER, PHI, SCO, SLO, SRB, THA, TUR, and ZIM) participated in the Seminar, attending all sessions of the lectures in all the days.
