Cavaliers CC and RTW Falcons Secure Dominant Wins in BVICA T20 Encounters

Greenland, March 16, 2025 – Cricket fans at Greenland were treated to an electrifying day of T20 action as Cavaliers CC and RTW Falcons registered emphatic victories over Police CC and Royal Knights, respectively. While the Cavaliers delivered a crushing 97-run win, the Falcons pulled off a four-wicket chase to cap off an exciting double-header.

Cavaliers CC Crush Police CC by 97 Runs

Cavaliers CC were at their explosive best in the morning fixture, amassing a mammoth 291 for 5 in 20 overs. Aaron Baker stole the show with a blistering 95 off just 44 balls, hammering 9 fours and 7 sixes. He was well-supported by Gavin Hitnarine (59 off 27) and Jagnarine Persaud (79 off 41) as the Cavaliers punished the Police CC bowlers.

Despite some early breakthroughs by Jamal Mickle (2/54) and Yohann Lezama (2/54), Police CC had no answers to the Cavaliers’ relentless batting assault.

In response, Police CC managed 194 for 5, with Shem Stay (45 off 27) and Jason Bobb-Semple (44 off 21) offering resistance. However, Vishal Bharat (3/22) led a disciplined bowling effort that ensured Cavaliers CC cruised to a commanding 97-run win.

RTW Falcons Chase Down 181 to Edge Royal Knights

In the afternoon clash, RTW Falcons stunned Royal Knights with a superb run chase, overhauling 181 all out with 11 balls to spare.

Batting first, the Knights rode on Loy Squires’ steady 51 off 40 balls and Keion De Jesus’ quickfire 34 off 17. Richard Francis (29 off 14) added some late fireworks, but Turby Xavier (4/28) led a disciplined Falcons’ bowling attack to keep them in check.

Chasing 182, RTW Falcons lost early wickets but found their hero in Austin McDowall, who played a match-winning knock of 63 off just 24 balls, smashing 7 sixes. Damron Prince (49 off 32) and Gary Prince (27 off 18) provided key contributions before McDowall’s late assault sealed the win.

Despite a valiant effort from Reno Mettleholzer (3/37), the Knights couldn’t prevent the Falcons from reaching 187 for 6 in 18.1 overs, securing a four-wicket victory.

This Sunday on May 21, defending champions Cavaliers Cricket Club comes up against Vikings Cricket Club team, which has been undefeated throughout this year’s T-20 tournament.

Ahead of this Sunday’s T-20 finals, the BVICA sought to gain some insight from team captains Gopaul Boodram and Deco Khemraj.

Cavaliers captain, Gopaul Boodram stated that it was customary for his team to meet after each game to discuss areas of weakness, boost morale, and ultimately strategize towards improvement.

“We always have this confidence that we can come out victorious in any game, under circumstance,” Boodram said.

Team captain of Cavaliers, also revealed that he has been a part of the Cavaliers team since 2010 and has benefited from learning from more experienced players.

“Our game plan is to play positive cricket, stick to our strategy, enjoy ourselves, and come out strong”, he said.

Meanwhile, captain of Vikings cricket team, Deco Khemraj said that it has been important for his team to have the correct mindset throughout the tournament.

Khemraj also commented that “We have been practicing, and our plan is to do the right thing at the right time. We will make sure we are on target, and everyone’s mindset is right. We will put our practice to good use. We came here to win at the end of the day.”

Khemraj was also man of the in last Sunday’s semifinals against Under the Tree where he scored 84 runs.

The Vikings captain stated that he is immensely proud of his team for their accomplishments throughout the season.

After not making it to the finals in over 5 years, Khemraj guarantees that his team will come out to play, what he described as “hard cricket”.

Last Sunday at Greenland featured a mixture of exciting feats, unexpected outcomes.

2nd GAME: Cavaliers vs. Police

The Police team was off to an outstanding start, with Cavaliers having just 11 runs on the board for 4 wickets. The 5th wicket fell when only 25 runs were scored. In fact, the first 2 wickets fell when only 1 run was on the board.

After winning the toss, Cavaliers decided to bat.

Captain Gopaul Boodram of Cavaliers said that the lower order was still able to advance the team to 197-9 after the 20 overs, even though the Police team proved to be a formidable force to reckon with.

Boodram stated that the last game was a testament of just how competitive the tournament was, and advised that none of the 10 competing teams should become complacent.

He said although he was happy about the win, it was not one of the more convincing victories.

Man of the match of the Cavaliers team Dhanpaul Chrisnanand took a wicket in the first over. He later came back from the other end and achieved a breakthrough with the ball, contributing to Cavaliers’ recovery and victory.
