Interested in becoming a certified Chess Arbiter?

BVI Chess is pleased to share an exciting opportunity for individuals in the Virgin Islands who are passionate about chess and want to support the growth of the game in our community.

FIDE (the International Chess Federation) will be hosting an online Preparation Seminar for National Arbiters (Basic Knowledge) from November 21–24, 2025. The seminar will be led by Laurent Freyd, International Arbiter, Chairman of the FIDE Development Commission, and former Chairman of the FIDE Arbiters Commission.

This seminar provides foundational training for those interested in becoming certified arbiters—an important step in organizing and officiating tournaments. Sessions will be held online and are open to community members, teachers, and chess enthusiasts.

There will be a short closing ceremony to end the chess ♟️ camp tomorrow Friday. All are invited to attend including parents and supporters. The children in the camp will be doing a live human demonstration on a life size chess ♟️ board. Promised to be exciting and great fun.

Following a fantastic first stage with 380 women from over 50 countries, this next round is for female players from FIDE Level 3, 4, and 5 federations – including the BVI – who aim to elevate their game and work towards representing their country at events such as the Women’s Olympiad.

The best part? It’s completely free – and you’ll get seven weeks of online lessons with top international coaches.

The BVI Chess Federation celebrates with national team members, Jasmine Brito of Bregado Flax Educational Centre - Secondary Division and Jordan Hinds of Elmore Stoutt High School on passing their high school exams. BOTH students have been named SALUTATORIANS of their respective schools.
