Lightheart Sailing: Charters, Cruises & Instruction
Come aboard for the light-hearted time of your life! Sit back and relax, or take the helm. Learn to sail with an ASA award-winning instructor.
Enjoy private day charters with great food, beverages and snorkeling - or book a week-long cruise. Lightheart Sailing Charters came to the Virgin Islands from Marblehead, Massachusetts, where her captains, Peter Branning and his wife Martha Boston, bought their new Hanse 400 s/v Lightheart during the summer of 2008. They cruised the Eastern Seaboard, Long Island Sound and Chesapeake Bay, arriving

Yesterday we did our final St. Croix charter. We had a wonderful group of guests for an easy light-wind sail, we got to witness an unusual and dramatic rescue of a boat that had run aground on Round Reef in the harbor, we sailed through a gorgeous bright orange sunset, and topped it all off with a dramatic full moonrise. What a way to end our 6 years of chartering on St. Croix! Thank you all for your support and friendship here. Come see us in St. Petersburg next year!

Hello, sailing friends! It's time for us to make a change - I guess you could call it a "sea change," since we'll literally be changing seas. During November and December, we will be sailing Lightheart north, through the Turks & Caicos and the Bahamas, on to Miami, and then to St. Petersburg where we plan to make our next home. We will continue to post here and on our individual FB pages to update you on our activities. We plan to do some chartering and sailing instruction in the St Pete area, so we hope you'll let us know if you'd like to come sail with us. St. Petersburg is a wonderful little city on a peninsula surrounded by Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, and we're looking forward to our new adventures there. Come join us!

We love putting together special experiences for our guests! This week we created a charter that combined afternoon snorkeling, sunset sailing, and anchoring for the the super/blue/blood moonrise. What kind of experience would YOU like to have aboard Lightheart?

Our friends at Virgin Islands Sailing School posted this a few years back.
Captain Peter Branning can teach you to fly - both on and off the water. Meet the former commercial pilot and flight instructor - and current U.S. Coast Guard captain, yacht racing coach and ASA sailing instructor - here: http://bit.ly/1dQIxgz
and take a virtual walk above and below decks of his good ship Lightheart here: http://bit.ly/1ff6DUY
We LOVE hearing from our happy guests: "I would give Lightheart Sailing 10 STARS if I could!!!
Peter and Martha are the BEST at what they do! They offer a top notch service that I have not encountered, EVER (until now). Their vast knowledge of sailing, the Caribbean, and life in general makes for a awesome trip/experience. The boat is beautiful and comfortable. We took the full day sail which included, snacks, lunch, and drinks. The food was delicious and all in our family were offered the opportunity to "sail" the boat. They are very flexible, so you can either sail around the island, snorkel, hunt for beaches or swimming areas, etc. You will truly have a "Lightheart" when your trip is complete. THIS IS THE BEST SAILING CHARTER SERVICE IN THE CARIBBEAN AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!"

Lightheart is sailing again! We'll be out on the water this weekend, and we hope to welcome you aboard one of our award-winning charters soon. Book online at www.lightheartsailing.com.
Lightheart and her crew are fine after Cat5 Hurricane Maria roared through St Croix. However the island, and all the other Virgin Islands are pretty devastated. However, recovery efforts are underway, and we hope to be sailing locally again after a month or so. In the meantime, please keep our the recovery of our Islands in your thoughts and prayers. And if you are moved to donate to a Virgin Islands-specific charity, that would be awesome. I can't direct you to one because this is my first opportunity since the storm to get online and find any info myself!

HURRICANE IRMA UPDATE: As you probably know, Hurricane Irma devastated our sister islands St. Thomas and St. John, as well as the British Virgin Islands and others. Here on St. Croix, the impact was minimal in most places, and our island has turned its eyes toward helping out those in need. Right now communication to and from St. Thomas and St. John is almost nonexistent, and the ports are closed. But some fellow mariners have managed to get limited port landing permits and have set up a "Crucian navy" - a way for volunteers to load up boats with supplies and disaster relief personnel and take them over. They've set up a GoFundMe site to purchase supplies, and if you wish, you can donate here: https://www.gofundme.com/irma-relief-for-our-sister-islands
Also, Tim Duncan (retired San Antonio Spurs star) is a St. Croix native, and he has set up a charity too, with matching donations. He'll be sending over charter planes from San Antonio loaded with supplies. You can read his touching story here as well as donate.https://www.theplayerstribune.com/tim-duncan-hurricane-irma-us-virgin-islands/
If you are not moved to donate, that's fine, but please send your compassionate best wishes to all islanders who have been affected by this phenomenal storm. The recovery of the islands will be a long time coming, and all the love you can give will be a big part of the healing process.
Thank you.

We have established a transportation chain to get supplies to St.Thomas and St.John from St.Croix. Caribbean Sea Adventures will be running trips back and forth to provide supplies....
