Steady, consistent fat loss week after week, month after month.

While building muscle, getting stronger and RAISING A BABY!

As a new breastfeeding Mom, we absolutely did not want to restrict the diet.

We developed a Nutrition Plan packed with proteins, healthy fats and plenty of dark chocolate ;-)

We intentionally set up a slow, methodical approach to losing body fat so we could be sure the milk supply for the baby was not impacted.

There will always be an excuse.

There will always be something else that needs your attention or something more appealing to do.

A warm soft bed with your loved one beside you.

Drinks and wings at the bar with your coworkers after work.

The couch and Netflix calling your name.

Success comes from sacrificing instant gratification in exchange for your goals.

Yes it’s cold outside…

Go out and get some sunshine and movement anyways.

Yes there’s dishes to clean up after you cook at home…

Cook a healthy meal anyways.

You can still enjoy all the pleasures of life as you work towards your future, but you’ve got to make time for the daily work that is going to get you to those goals.

Find balance.

Be disciplined.

Focus on your Why.

It’s a MYTH that eating healthy is more expensive.

Yes, there are very pricey organic produce and meats out there.

But you can definitely eat healthy on a budget.

Plus, if you were to add up the amount of money you spend each week on ready-made, restaurant, and to-go foods and drinks, you would probably be astonished at how much you are spending.

And by cooking and eating more at home, you could potentially SAVE money by eating healthier.

That being said, there are some things you can do to not break the bank at the grocery store.

Here’s some strategies to eat healthy on a reasonable budget:

✅ buy Produce that is in season
✅ frozen and canned veggies are cheap and go great in soups or stews
✅ buy a fattier (cheaper) cut of meat and trim off the excess fat
✅ buy in bulk at BJs or Costco if you have the storage space
✅ use coupons and/or plan meals around what’s on sale at the grocery store that week
✅ buy coffee and make it at home

And let’s not forget the hidden costs of eating unhealthy….

The potential for 10s of thousands of dollars in healthcare and prescription costs to deal with your metabolic diseases later in life.

DADS

Cut it out with the macho “I don’t take care of myself” tough guy attitude.

The extra 20 pounds on your gut is shortening your lifespan.

Your habits are making your testosterone levels drop.

It’s not cool for you to be out of shape.

It’s not cool for you to ignore your health.

And it’s really not cool for you to die prematurely and leave your family behind.

I lived that s**t.

A heart attack took my dad from us when I was 16.

This s**t isn’t just about six pack abs.

I care about health and wellness and longevity.

Why I’m incredibly passionate about not letting that be the story for me or for other families.

I know you love your spouse and your kids.

So let’s get our s**t together and do the right things.

So we can show up and be the best, healthiest, happiest dads we can be.

Restriction isn’t fun.

Restriction is all about taking things away and focusing on what you CAN’T have.

My philosophy for Nutrition is one of ABUNDANCE.

I don’t cut out food groups (unless you have a real food intolerance or allergy).

I don’t focus on what should be limited.

I focus on FUELING your body with MORE of the healthy foods you need to look and feel your best.

To have more energy.

To build strong, lean, healthy muscle tissue.

To improve mental clarity.

To live longer, happier, healthier lives.

Your weekend habits might be sabotaging all the hard work you’re putting in during the week…

This post isn’t meant to shame anyone or make them feel like a failure, but rather to bring awareness to how you might be shooting yourself in the foot.

I see it and hear it all the time:

“I’m eating well most of the time but not losing weight.”

“I’m in a calorie deficit but the scale isn’t moving.”

“I’m following the 80/20 rule but not losing any body fat.”

Unfortunately, for those of you trying to decrease body fat, get healthier and feel better, it is totally possible to cancel out a full week of calorie deficits over the weekend or even with one night of letting loose.

I’m not saying you can’t enjoy a slice of pizza on the weekends.

My philosophy to weight loss is not restrictive. I want you to be able to enjoy a beer or a slice of pizza while you are in a fat loss phase.

But we need to make it fit into your calorie “budget” for the week.

Some quick math:

If I am in a 700 calorie deficit for 5 days of the week, Monday through Friday, that is 3500 calories total.

But then on Saturday and Sunday, you OVEREAT by 1750 calories each day, wiping out the entire deficit you created during the week.

And that’s easier to do than you may realize.

Between greasy, fatty foods, liquid calories, and sauces….those extra calories can add up fast.

So, what should you do instead?

1. Prioritize Protein - it will help satiate you and keep you from overeating other foods

2. Go in with a Plan - Plan in advance what you are going to eat when out.

3. Mindset - if you are dieting, you will need to have some discipline to stop after only 1 drink or 1 slice of pizza. Use positive self talk and remind yourself of your goals.

Remember, you don’t have to be perfect to make progress.

But Calories still count on the weekend.
