How about some positive inspiration ! Thank you for this new series of article on Business Growth!
Breadfruit Consulting crosses the road of inspirational entrepreneurs and wants to share some beautiful stories about initiatives making a difference in South Pacific. We would like to introduce you to Millicent Barty is a multi-disciplinary Designer and social entrepreneur from Solomon Islands, passionate about developing sustainable programs that empower women and youth through education and economic opportunities.
She founded Millicent Designs, a micro multi-disciplinary design and communications consultancy in 2015 to pursue her βKastom Stori Taem Toolβ (KSTT) β an innovative communications tool which combines traditional oral storytelling practices (Kastom Stories) of the Solomon Islands and design to bridge gaps in communication between socio-political cleavages, development projects, the private sector and rural communities. In Solomon Islands, where 85% of the population live in rural areas and 80% of adults are illiterate, this role of translating information in a form where people can make informed decisions about policies and projects that impact their lives is of crucial importance.
Nationally, and until recently, she was the Chairperson of the Young Entrepreneurs Council Solomon Islands Entrepreneurs Council Solomon Islands (YECSI), an organization that was her brainchild and that she developed as a public-private partnership to address high youth unemployment through the promotion of Entrepreneurship & Innovation. She designs and implements programs that champion young people to build their capabilities as entrepreneurs and support them through mentorship opportunities in a context where 70% of the population is under 35 with an 85% youth unemployment rate.
