Fantastic weekend at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club - RPAYC sailing in the SAILING Champions League - Asia Pacific finals. Crazy shifty gusty conditions on short legs made for a fun and challenging race course!
We felt that we performed better than our results suggest having suffered some equipment issues early in the regatta but by the end we showed some good form.
The huge learning curve continues....
Trade winds anyone?

What an amazing weekend at Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia taking part in the Fred Neill Match Racing Regatta!
Our goal was to learn a bit more about sailing the Elliot’s ahead of the SAILING Champions League - Asia Pacific finals later this month.
Greg and the team were all ridiculously nice and turned on the hospitality tap to full. Maddie managed the boats and sailors and more or less everything in between all at once somehow.
While our sailing was a bit rusty, that was to be expected and our team is now looking forward to the league finals with confidence.
For any sailors throughout the South Pacific / Australia or New Zealand looking to up their game, 2023 Fred Neill Match Racing should be top of your list!

Great to have Team Vanuatu SCL with us this weekend giving the revived Fred Neill Regatta some exciting international flavour!
Justin Johnson and his team from the Vanuatu Cruising Yacht Club have made a pit stop in Adelaide for a bit of race practice ahead of the SAILING Champions League - Asia Pacific Final at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club next month.
In Justin’s team is Hiro, an indigenous ni-Vanuatu (Melonesian) sailor who grew up in Port Vila. He was one of three sailors selected to represent Vanuatu in the Laser class at the Pacific Mini Games but unfortunately the program got scrapped due to funding constraints.
Off the back of that, the Vanuatu Sailing Team project came together, which has a purpose to provide a pathway for ni-Vanuatu sailors to get exposure to competitive sailing events not available at home, making them more aware of the opportunities available to athletes who take up sailing as a sport.
The Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia, and our major partners Harken Australia, welcome Justin, Hiro and the whole VCYC team to Adelaide and thank them for being part of our event.
We’ve also heard rumours of a traditional Kava night being hosted by the Vanuatians on Saturday night at the club, so make sure you get around that!

We are so excited to announce our first international entrant into the Harken Australia Fred Neill Regatta, Team Vanuatu SCL from the Vanuatu Cruising Yacht Club.
This team is in Australia preparing for the SAILING Champions League - Asia Pacific Final in Sydney in May and thought they would make the trip to Adelaide for some additional practice in the Elliott 7s.
We look forward to welcoming Justin Johnson and his team to Adelaide in just less than two weeks.
