Many people think Ambrym Volcano is no longer active because the famous glowing lava lakes at Mount Benbow and Mount Marum have disappeared. But
๐‘ซ๐™„๐‘ซ ๐’€๐™Š๐‘ผ ๐‘ฒ๐™‰๐‘ถ๐™’ that Ambrym is still one of Vanuatuโ€™s most active volcanoes?

๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐˜€?
Before December 2018, both craters contained huge lakes of molten lava that glowed brightly at night. During a major eruption in 2018, cracks opened in the volcano and the lava drained deep underground, causing the glowing lakes to disappear.

๐ŸŒ‹ ๐ˆ๐ฌ ๐€๐ฆ๐›๐ซ๐ฒ๐ฆ ๐•๐จ๐ฅ๐œ๐š๐ง๐จ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž?
Yes! Even without the lava lakes:
โ€ข Small eruptions and lava flows can still happen.
โ€ข Thick clouds of steam and volcanic gases will rise from the craters again.
โ€ข Scientists regularly detect volcanic tremors beneath the caldera.
โ€ข Ambrym remains at Alert Level 2 (Major Unrest).

The volcano is not asleepโ€”it is simply storing much of its energy beneath the surface.

Inside the giant Ambrym caldera is a huge ash-covered plain that looks almost like a desert in the middle of a tropical island!

โœ… Made up of volcanic ash, rocks, and old lava deposits.
โœ… One of the largest volcanic calderas in the Pacific region.
โœ… Creates a unique landscape unlike anywhere else in Vanuatu.
โœ… Formed by thousands of years of volcanic activity.

Held at Epauto Multipurpose Hall, the day was filled with fun, learning, fellowship, and lots of happy memories.

From colorful club booth displays, exciting games & activities, to seeing families and friends enjoying the full-day program together โ€” it was truly a joyful experience for all our Adventurers!
