Our heart is in Bondi Beach

If you look closely, you will find every nation under the sun on the sand at Bondi Beach on any busy Saturday or Sunday. The only reason we cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge, is to go to Bondi. It is the world’s beach.

In the wake of the tragic events at Bondi Beach this week, we at Sāmoa Events & Swims extend our deepest condolences and unwavering support to the people of Australia. This heartbraking event has shaken communities far beyond its shores, reminding us all of the importance of unity, compassion, and resilience in the face of violence and extremism.

We have many, many friends right across Australia and we stand shoulder to shoulder with you in the hope for the good that will emerge from this.

May peace, healing, and solidarity guide us all as we move forward together.

The first of a three-swim week.

Dr. Dave Edgar
Apolima Strait double crossing 3 Nov 2025
Single crossing success
Second crossing incomplete due to high seas

Dr. Dave’s double crossing of Apolima Strait had already been postponed by five days due to adverse weather.

The first crossing’Upolu to Savai’i went to plan, including the dreaded south-north current between Apolima motu and the Tafua peninsula on Savai’i.

Dr. Dave becomes the first person to swim from’Upolu to Savai’i twice. First in 2018, and now in 2025.

One kilometre into the return leg and the north wind doubled in strength against forecast, at 16-18 knots. With high wind against tide the outcome was increasingly high seas. After six kms of the return leg, the second crossing was aborted for another day.

Congratulations Doc on making history as the first person to swim the Strait twice and for tempting the second crossing in difficult conditions.
