Tai chi is one of the best tools that you can apply for self-development and health. Its essence is in the synchronization of thought, breath, and movement. That is why when we observe tai chi practice, it is revealed by slow gracious movement. To accentuate the martial aspect, the most ancient style of tai chi, Chen, has incorporated explosive movements and interactions with an opponent.
The explosive movements are designed to train quick energy redistribution, focus, and agility.
The interactions with opponents in the form of push-hand techniques bring a sense of connection with other people.
With an increasing global population paradoxically, we feel an increasing sense of alienation. The founders of Chen style tai chi saw 500 years ago. They borough together a system that capitalizes on self being surrounded by others. That is why there is never an opposition in Tai chi, only opponents. We are always grateful to have an opponent because, without them, it will not be us.
The immediate benefits of tai chi include improved muscle coordination, balance, the function of the cardiovascular system.
The long-term benefits include increased flexibility, muscle strengths, self-confidence, reduced stress, and self-defense ability.
