First race back in a while...Golden Acre Relay in ridiculous torrential rain. Wet, muddy, slippy, hilly - what's not to love 😆 Despite this, good to get my racing shoes back on 💪

Does this resonate with anyone? Emotional eating is common - probably one of the main causes of weight gain. We eat and drink when we're bored, stressed, anxious, upset...the list goes on. It can be a tough cycle to break but here are a few tips to help you regain some control and have a healthier relationship with food:

1. Identify triggers - understanding when and why you are reaching for food is the first step to change.

2. Find alternatives - instead of turning for food, explore other activities that bring you comfort - going for a walk, journaling, calling a friend can help manage your emotions.

3. Create a balanced routine - regular nutritious meals help keep blood sugar levels stable which can reduce the urge to eat for emotional reasons. Good sleep and consistent exercise also greatly impact your emotional well-being.

4. Be kind to yourself - breaking the cycle of emotional eating takes time. If you slip up, don't be too hard on yourself. Every step towards change counts 💪

Remember it's about progress, not perfection. You've got this! 🌟

🐰🌷Post-Easter Guilt?

So, Easter has come and gone, and maybe like me, you're feeling the aftermath of all those delicious treats and indulgent moments. It's easy to fall into the trap of wanting to hit the gym for hours on end or swear off sweets altogether.

👉 It's tempting to believe that slashing calories to the bare minimum will magically lead to rapid weight loss. But spoiler alert: it doesn't work like that. Here's why:

1. Metabolic Slowdown: When you severely restrict calories, your body goes into survival mode. Your metabolism slows down to conserve energy, making it harder to lose weight in the long run. Your body is smart—it adapts to survive!

2. Muscle Loss: Ever heard of "skinny fat"? That's what can happen when you over-restrict calories. Your body starts burning muscle for fuel instead of fat, leaving you looking slim but lacking muscle tone and overall health.

3. Nutritional Deficiencies: Cutting too many calories often means cutting out essential nutrients your body needs to function properly. This can lead to fatigue, weakness, and other health issues—not exactly the picture of wellness we're going for!

4. Binge Eating: Guess what happens when you deprive yourself of food for too long? You guessed it—binge eating! Your body rebels against the deprivation, leading to episodes of uncontrollable overeating that sabotage your weight loss efforts.

So what's the solution???

Moderation and self-compassion. One over-indulgent weekend is unlikely to affect your health/weight in the long run so go easy on yourself and just get back to your usual routine. But if you do still want to lose weight, then good nutrition and moving your body to create a small calorie deficit is a far more effective and sustainable way to get the results you want

***Warning: Soppy post alert***

💕This Valentines Day, I'm reflecting on how lucky I am that I get to share my love of being active with my partner. Whilst we don't like all the same activities, running in particular is a shared hobby that we get to experience together.

From running our first marathon together (well, not together exactly, I can't keep up!!) to going down to our local parkrun, taking part in club events and socials with other friends or simply enjoying a social run together on a weekend, being active with a partner is like unlocking a treasure chest of benefits! 🏋️‍♀️💕 From boosting motivation to creating lasting memories, the perks are endless. Discovering new events, supporting each other's fitness goals, and sharing the joy of running – it's a journey that strengthens both body and bond

This Monday morning, I'm still feeling a little achy from running / walking the Rombalds Stride on Saturday, a challenging 23 mile route around the beautiful Yorkshire moorlands. It's the first time I have taken part in an event like this and I did enjoy it despite how hard it felt at times - helped by good weather and great running buddies. I'm feeling proud of the achievement!

But now is the perfect time to reflect on the importance of REST AND RECOVERY. I'm running the London marathon in a little over two months and whilst it may be tempting to get right back on it, I've scheduled a recovery week into my training. A few days off running completely and then a couple of gentle runs towards the end of the week. Time to give my joints and muscles the rest they need, build back up the energy stores I have well and truly depleted so that I can get back into marathon training in the right shape.

Remember, rest and recovery is as much a part of the training as the running - in fact that is when your body adapts and gets fitter/stronger. It's all part of the jigsaw to get you to the start line in good shape and injury free.

Rediscovering Your Fitness Mojo💪

Can you believe we're already a month into 2024? 🗓️ If you're still rocking those New Year's fitness resolutions, give yourself a virtual high-five! 🙌 But, hey, we all know maintaining that initial motivation can be a challenge.

It's okay if the New Year's fitness resolutions took an unexpected detour. Life happens, and we've all been there. But guess what? It's never too late to hit that reset button.
Here's a little motivation to get you back on track:

1️⃣ No Guilt, No Shame: Leave the guilt behind! We're human, and setbacks are part of the journey. Embrace the process, learn from it, and move forward.

2️⃣ Small Wins Matter: Start with tiny, achievable goals. Celebrate those small victories, and let them build the momentum you need to tackle bigger challenges.

3️⃣ Find Your Why: Remind yourself why you started this fitness journey. Whether it's for health, happiness, or confidence, connect with your deeper motivation.

4️⃣ Mix It Up: Boredom can kill motivation. Try a new workout, explore different activities, or join a fitness class. Variety adds spice to your routine!

5️⃣ Accountability Partners: Share your goals with a friend or family member. Having a workout buddy can make the journey more enjoyable and keep you on track.

Remember, each day is a new opportunity to make positive choices. You've got this! 💫
