Lake Conroe Fishing Report 6/15/22

Lake Conroe is at 200.67 ft msl, or less than ½ ft below full pool. The water temperature is ranging between 86 degrees in the morning, to 92 degrees in the afternoon. The days are hot and the fish are still making the move offshore. The fish are setting up in full summertime patterns in some areas, while other areas have not quite made it all the way out. Fishing can be hit or miss, and it is very area dependent. Some days we are having really good catches, while others can be very tough. We are seeing quite a few suspended fish, which can be very difficult to target. We are catching most of our fish on Carolina rigged baby brush hogs, swim baits and shaky head trick worms. There are some very good catches coming in local tournaments, but for the most part, Lake Conroe has not quite reached it’s full summertime potential. It won’t be long now until the lake is in full summertime mode, and the offshore bite will be on fire.

Lake Conroe Fishing Report 4/28/22

Lake Conroe is at 201.02 ft msl, or just above full pool. The water temperature is ranging from 71 to 77 degrees. While there are still a few fish on beds in a few very specific locations, most of the fish we are catching are post spawn. We are catching fish above the bridge, using a SPRO Popping Frog and buzz baits around shallow cover where a shad spawn has occurred nearby. We are also getting early shad spawn bites around rocks using a Hedden Zara Spook. We will continue with the frog and small swimbaits around shallow cover after the sun gets up and the shad move out deeper. On the south end, fish are funneling out of the canals and pockets where spawning activity took place. They are seeking out the docks and bulkheads on the points outside of these areas. These fish are using the docks as an ambush point for feeding, and as a holding point to recover from spawning activity. Points where a morning shad spawn is present, seem to concentrate the most fish, and provide good early morning action. As the sun gets up and the shad spread out a little deeper, most of the fish remain close to the bulkhead. Areas where bluegill are present seem to be a little better, as they provide another type of forage for mid-morning to late day feeding. We are flipping these bulkheads and docks with a Spot Remover Pro-model, paired with a Zoom Trick Worm in green pumpkin or black and blue. Texas rigged creature baits work well around these docks too. We have begun catching some deeper fish around off-shore rocks and brush in certain areas, but we have yet to find size or numbers off-shore. This pattern feels like it is still a few weeks away.
