Wow! What can I say. This past weekend has been filled with lots great memories and even better racing.
Yanni Shaw #333 was presented the opportunity to wild card Round 2 of the Asia Road Racing Championship and continue his efforts towards Round 3 of the ASBK - Australian Superbikes at The Bend Motorsport Park.
The news had come in late that this wild card was possible and many hands come together to make this happen. Whilst I was away overseas Yanni had to basically prep his old 2011 ZX10R steed with some very good friends and many borrowed spares to make it all happen. Huge thanks to Jason and Grant!
Knowing the 2011 bike is definitely not to the same pedigree of the bikes competing in this championship we knew that we were always going to have our challenges. However in true form of Yanni's character he put his head down over the 4 days and made the most of what was under him. Yanni earnt himself 13th in Race 1 and 11th in Race 2. Stellar effort.
On the flip side in the SSP300 class, the introduction of suspension proved to give us some much needed adjustability we were after. After topping the time sheets in FP1. Qualifying proved to be challenging having no testing time in the dry with the new suspension. However managed 12th on the grid for the races. Over the 3 races Yanni finished Race 1 in 10th, Race 2 in 13th and Race 3 in 4th narrowly missing the podium.
As a small outfit we all all super proud of these achievements!
I goes without saying a huge thanks to all involved, Cameron, Alex, Audrey, Craig, Rick, Bridgestone Australia, Jason and Grant.
Looking forward to the break now and some testing in between the next Round come early July. 🏁
