Much of the work behind a safe transit through a high-risk area happens well before a vessel arrives.

At "Volatility in the Persian Gulf", a joint seminar held earlier this month, Anilkumar Tiwari, Fleet Manager, Operations at Anglo-Eastern, shared how we assess and manage transit risk in practice: structured threat assessment, 24x7 risk assurance monitoring, pre-transit readiness checks, ship and shore coordination, and disciplined reporting protocols.

Anilkumar’s central point was a practical one – regional volatility sits outside any ship operator's control. Preparedness, vigilance, planning, communication and a consistent risk management framework are what allow vessels to operate safely and resiliently.

That work is supported by our Global Security Desk, established in 2024 to turn a high volume of security information into intelligence teams can act on, supporting a managed fleet of 700+ vessels with 30 to 50 ships transiting high-risk areas at any given time.

A cleaner coastline starts with people who are willing to lend a hand.

Earlier this month, colleagues from our Singapore Office spent a morning at East Coast Park collecting litter from the shoreline, removing approximately 78 kg of waste before it could further impact the marine environment.

Among the items collected were drink cans, plastic cups, disposable utensils and styrofoam fragments, while litter floating offshore served as a reminder of how easily waste left on land can find its way into our oceans.

Protecting the marine environment is a responsibility that extends beyond the vessels we manage. While our efforts at sea focus on safe, responsible and environmentally compliant operations, initiatives like these demonstrate how everyday actions ashore also play a part in safeguarding the ecosystems on which global shipping depends.

More than a cleanup exercise, the event brought colleagues together around a shared purpose and reinforced an important message: meaningful change often begins with small actions taken consistently.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to support this initiative and make a difference. While no single action can solve the challenge of marine pollution, we believe that collective efforts, however small, can create a lasting impact.

"Would you recommend a career at sea to your own son or daughter?"

That was the question Ashish Malik, Managing Director, put to the room in his session ‘Seafaring as a Career’ at the Nautical Institute (Singapore) Conference 2026 last week.

Ashish addressed one of the industry's most pressing challenges: attracting, developing and retaining the next generation of seafarers. Drawing on his experience at sea and in shore-based leadership, he made the case for moving beyond recruitment to sustainable career pathways built on quality training, well-being, career progression and clear sea-to-shore opportunities.

That thinking sits behind our well-being initiatives WeCare and Career Care Programme. The latter guides our seafarers through certification, promotion, reskilling to different vessel types and the move into shore-based roles. We maintain a retention rate above 95%, and 72% of officers were promoted from within.

Investing in people is fundamental to the resilience of global shipping. For owners, that continuity shows up as safer, better-crewed vessels.

Zero environmental detentions. Zero pollution incidents. A deficiency ratio of 0.074 against a Paris MoU average of 0.423. That was our environmental performance across the managed fleet in 2025.

Numbers like these are the product of a system built well before regulation required it: a dedicated Environmental Compliance Department set up in 2007, Zero-Pollution and Zero-Tolerance policies, an empowerment card in every seafarer's pocket, and voluntary audits that go beyond the ISM Code.

We're delighted to share that two Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy (AEMA) alumni have achieved the highest marks in the 2025 Second Mate (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency examination.

Ms Gargi Jayadeep Nair and Mr Mohammed Tabish Mirza topped the female and male categories respectively, with their awards presented by India's NMDC (National Maritime Day Celebrations) Committee. Both are now sailing as Third Officers on our managed vessels.

Gargi and Tabish came up through the DNS 23 batch at our maritime academy – part of what makes their story special to us. It's not often that a ship manager gets to walk alongside a seafarer from cadet training right through to command, and that continuity is where results like these take root. The credit sits firmly with the two of them, and with the faculty and trainers who guided them every step of the way.

Congratulations, Gargi and Tabish. Your achievement sets a quiet benchmark for the cadets following behind you, and we wish you every success in the years at sea ahead.

Our London team has moved to a new office at Colour Works, Sugar House Island.

Set within a canal-side development, the office is designed with well-being in mind. With high ceilings and large windows bringing in natural light, the location is within walking distance of Pudding Mill Lane and close to the Stratford transport hub.

Our Hellas office has recently welcomed the latest intake of its annual Internship Programme, with students joining us from the University of the Aegean, Alba Graduate Business School, the National Technical University of Athens and the University of Piraeus.
