Well you know how they say you have your best day and the other is your worst day? Well today takes the chocolates for being my worst ever day of racing. Qualifying and 2 races today. Sadly this was how the car looked for most of the day.
Expectations were high as we travelled down this morning after last weekends testing.
Qualifying in a huge field on the short track is always difficult, especially around Winton being only just over 2km in length. Early start, oil on the track from the Super Trucks and a missing link in the rear sway bar made for an eventful (read that as slow qualifying session)
Race 1, Lap 1 great start passing a few cars only to come out of the sweeper, lock a front brake and throw the car into a spin, across the remainder of the field (thanks Tim Maynard for not cleaning me up!). Bonnet pin was up so into the pits and the end of my race, didn’t finish a lap 😞
Race 2 was looking forward to a much better race after a lot of hard work by Declan Kirkham and Dave to repair and replace the missing sway bar link. Start, let’s go! Passed a couple on the start again, coming out of turn 3 saw some trailing smoke in the rear vision mirror, thought it was from the front damage rubbing the tyre…..nope it was the new link relocating itself in the rear of the car and running the tyre. Well, to a point, the rubbing became a stabbing and leading into a corner the tyre blew out again sending me into a spin. Thankfully we didn’t hit anything.
Car has been repaired again and looking forward to a much more successful and faster day tomorrow.
It couldn’t be worse than today!
