UCI Gran Fondo TT
Oh where to start with this one.
From a course point of view I couldn’t have asked for much more.
An out and back lay down the watts and get aero! The only thing I’d liked to have seen would of been another 10 or maybe 20 miles on the race distance, but you can’t have it all.
The start was delayed by around 20 minutes due to a couple of crashes in some of the other categories, which messed with the head a little as I wasn’t 100% sure what time I was off. But luckily my start time was just about right. I was a little bit twitchy in the start gate as the unholy amount of caffeine I’d had was starting to hit.
Once I was away it really was a straight forward race. I just had to keep telling myself to stay on the throttle all the way, and it’d be fine. I picked off a few riders in front of me and didn’t get caught, so I knew I was on for a half decent result.
I was super chuffed to come away with 8th, it could of been 7th, but I got pipped by a few hundredths of a second, so I might complain a little about that.
But days like today are why I love this sport so much. For all my friends that travel to see me race to the support of people on the road side, I’m extremely grateful. The buzz I got from the race, it was just a brilliant feeling.
It might be a couple of years before I’m pulling the Impsort GB Suit back on, but I will definitely be having another go. You never know, if I do some head scratching I might be able to pull the stripey jersey on 🤔
Now on to the next one.
