Cape ground squirrel (Geosciurus inauris)

Hierdie “waaier stert meerkat” soos ons hom in die geweste noem, is meestal n herbivoor en eet net gras en wortels maar sal so nou en dan sy dieet op top met n termiet of twee.
Hulle bly in kolonies waar hul gate grawe in die grond, so trek daar soms ander mongoos of meerkat spesies by hul in en hul trek voordeel uit die gevaar roepseine van hul huurders. Die Pa’s trek uit en grou n aparte huis wanneer die kleintjies gebore is…….😏
Die wyfies kry natuurlik die werk om die kinders op te pas en dit wil vir my voorkom of die een ontsnap het uit die creche. Ons almal ken SO n kind.

Hulle is bedags aktief en hiberneer nie.
