Tip for Tennis
We all must learn from losing
Unfortunately we don’t and specially parents
I have been teaching tennis for decades
I have competed all over the world
I have taught tennis in many countries
I have coached tennis coaches, high performance players and all the way to juniors and grass root levels of tennis
We all celebrate when we win a match or matches. But when a child loses specially parents they forget how to behave. Some they get so upset and they start nagging their child for the horrific losses. This kinda becomes a habit. What they don’t seem to understand is the child feels to numbing pain. We must remember the child is already suffering from his or her loss. This is the time parents need to comport and calm the child. Instead they will show frustration and helplessness as parents to the child who tediously work hard all the time.
My suggest win or lose find something positive
Say something like this: Your strokes looked good it’s just that you needed to move your feet.
Give your child some hope so that they can go back to work.
This is what parents need to know when a child fails
Was it Technical ?
Was it tactical ?
Was it physical or was it Mental ?
Never make a child feel bad because he or she lose or fail
Figure out where the core issue is
Failures are stepping stone to success
Every great player you see have lost many many times
By the way the losing never stops
At the US Open there was only one man and one woman left
Everyone lost except Zverev and Rybakina stood standing as winners
So next time if your child loses again and again show them love. Go back to the courts. and work on their deficiencies
In tennis there is always next time
