Where and when do carp spawn?

🌱 Carp spawn in the spring and early summer, usually in weedy, grassy, shallow areas of dams and rivers. They can spawn in water as shallow as 80 cm – 1.5 m.

🌧️ They prefer to spawn just before the big summer rains, as the water levels rise.

📅 In South Africa, carp generally spawn between September and October, depending on the climate.

🐟 Spawning fish can often be seen jumping out of the water or wallowing in the shallows – a great sign for the health of our fish stocks!

🎣 Fishing tip: During this time, carp are not difficult to catch if you know which fish to target. Sharper flavors can draw attention, but don’t be afraid to experiment with bait colors and types to find what works best. 😉
