Swys de Bruin has reportedly resigned as Springbok Women head coach following a dispute with SA Rugby.
According to Rapport, De Bruin has already left his position and is not involved in preparations for Saturday’s Test against New Zealand’s Black Ferns at FNB Stadium.

In his absence, the Bok Women have enlisted the help of Junior Boks assistant coach Melusi Mthethwa, who works under head coach Kevin Foote.

De Bruin’s departure comes after he guided the Springbok Women to a historic World Cup campaign in England last year. South Africa reached the quarter-finals for the first time before being eliminated by New Zealand, and De Bruin had been expected to remain in charge through to the 2029 World Cup in Australia.

Rapport claims that his dispute with SA Rugby centred on win bonuses relating to the team’s tours to Africa and Fiji, which De Bruin did not personally attend. The former Lions and Springbok assistant coach reportedly maintained that he was entitled to the bonuses despite his absence from those tours.

De Bruin is also said to have been unhappy about alleged interference during his time in charge. According to Rapport’s sources, the experienced coach is now planning to become involved with Paarl Boys’ High.

Airlink has withdrawn its application to conduct Saturday’s planned flyover at FNB Stadium in Soweto, with possible poor weather conditions cited as the reason for the decision.

According to eNCA, the airline withdrew its application with the relevant authorities after weather conditions were identified as a potential concern for Saturday.

The planned flyover was set to form part of the pre-match programme at the iconic Calabash, ahead of the third Test of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry.

However, aviation safety comes first and with the possibility of challenging weather conditions, Airlink has opted not to proceed with the planned stadium flyover.

It means one of the anticipated sights in the skies above Soweto on Saturday will now be missing.

One thing about Daan Human he’s not afraid to call it as he sees it.

Speaking at a press conference, the Springboks’ scrum coach dismissed the suggestion that South Africa deliberately “walks around” in the scrums. And his response was unequivocal.

Human pointed out that he has been responsible for the Springboks’ scrum for six years and they have been scrummaging in this manner throughout that period.

His message was particularly clear: if he were the coach instructing the Springboks to simply walk around in the scrum, then he should be packing his bags. That says it all.

The Springboks’ scrum is not built on shortcuts. It is built on years of technical preparation, brutal physical conditioning, discipline and an extraordinary amount of work behind closed doors.

For South Africa’s front row, what may look unconventional from the outside is simply another day at the office.

Perhaps that is the point World Rugby needs to understand: what looks difficult, unusual or even “easy” to others can become second nature when you have spent years perfecting it.

For the Springboks, scrummaging can look like “a walk in the park” because the hard work was done long before they walked onto the field. Say no more.
