You can volunteer in community clean ups near you. We love seeing our own sisters and brothers participate in clean-up campaigns outside of Mkhuhlu. Here is one clean up day attended by our own Buntu Fanteso which took place at Kliepspruit River in Orlando East, Soweto. A partnership between , Department of Water and Sanitation South Africa, WESSA Schools Programme and Selelekela High School.

There are people volunteering to improve the living conditions of people in Mkhuhlu. We have to thank Rodney Mokoena and Trinity Nittie for their dedication in helping young people make it to university and their time the time they have given to community projects such as clean-up days. Let us all learn from this young lady and man and do our best to make our community beautiful in any way possible.

Illegal waste dumping and littering appears to be a great challenge in most areas of our country. It is small efforts like this made by young learners in a township outside of Grahamstown that give us hope. Everyone can play a role in making their community a better place in their own living space. An environmental awareness day hosted by WWF South Africa interns and South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity, Makhanda, Eastern Cape proved that it is possible to do a little in your community to make it a better place.

Ku kukula xitrati (sweeping the street with a straw broom) is our long lasting tradition. We continue to sweep the dust and leave the plastics outside our homes. A thought.

We caught up with young girls from Sybrand and Makhosana!
"We can see that we have a pollution problem. Its obviously not good for us or our the environment. So we think we should solve the problem as quickly as possible"
"We think its difficult to stop people from dumping outside because they don't have any other place to throw their rubbish"
