*TOUCH UPDATE*
We trust you are all doing ok under the circumstances! All the best for 2020!
Please note that whilst we would all love to be playing some Touch, under the current Level 3 COVID restrictions, we are sadly not able to.
It is impossible to predict what is going to happen over the coming months, but no plans will be implemented until there is a reduction in levels to at least level 2, whereby further communication will follow…
All we can say is stay safe, adhere to the regulations, and pray for the vaccine to arrive and start working ASAP!
Regards

Hey Guys!
The presidents message was a positive one and we are moving towards a return to some sort of normality although I want to stress that we are most certainly not out of the woods! Please continue to be vigilant and sanitize regularly and keep those masks on, so we can do our best to beating this thing!
The plan is still to begin leagues in the week of the 28th of September, but we are in the hands of the decision makers. Once the updated govt gazette comes out, we will have a much clearer indication of what's happening!
In the interim, please have a quick look at (and forward to your players) the abbreviated set of our COVID Safety protocols. The un-abridged guide will be sent to you via email in the build-up to league, as we are expecting the govt to implement some further guidelines...
If you haven't yet registered your teams (and added players to the website - Compulsary and all part of the protocols), please get cracking as there are under 2 weeks to go!
On a final note - Thank you to those that completed our survey last week! The response was exceptional and we were buoyed by the positive response and amazing suggestions. Many of you have called for a better consistency in refereeing and better quality fields and we are pleased to announce that we are working behind the scenes to deliver on these and many other things! The winner of the lucky draw was Zivan Mynhardt from the Vikings in the Northern Suburbs League in Cape Town. We will be in Touch to arrange delivery of your hamper!
Looking forward to seeing you all soon

TOUCH UPDATE – COVID 19!!!
As many of you would have noted, the Governments recent relaxation on the 17th of August with regards to the Disaster Management Act from Level 3 to Level 2 has brought about a significant change in the opening up of a wide range of industries and activities.
There has once again been a vagueness in the directive being handed down with regards sporting activities, including professional and non-professional matches with many sports having opened subject to approval from their sporting bodies.
There is an open and continuing dialogue with the South African Touch Association in this regard and together with rigorous discussion and consultation with a number of medical practitioners as well as all our venues and a wide range of players and administrators, we are cautiously preparing ourselves for a return to action!
We are under no illusions that this pandemic is over. In fact, we are certain that there is a long way to go before things return to a sense of normality. In fact, we are encouraging everyone to remain as vigilant as you were at the start of lockdown, as the threat of contraction is even higher now than it was then.
Our aim is to take an extremely measured approach in returning to playing, and we urge you all to take the same approach. We have heard of many social games already taking place and we urge you to take special precautions in:
1. Staying away if you have any cold or flu-like symptoms
2. Staying away if you have been exposed to anyone who has been infected with the Virus over the past 14 days
3. Sanitizing before and after you play
4. Wearing a mask to the best of your ability while playing
It is our intention to try and begin leagues as soon as possible, however safety is paramount and we will not do anything until we are satisfied that the time is right, and necessary protocols are in place. It will then be up to the individual and team to make the decision to return. More information regarding dates and details will be forthcoming as and when we have them, but it is our intention to update you all on at least a weekly basis!
Should you feel the need to discuss anything with us, please free to contact us by emailing [email protected] or calling or whatsapping 082 492 3683
Looking forward to seeing you all sometime soon! Stay Safe!

Howzit
Hope you are well and gearing up for a return to work next week! A return to touch is obviously still some distance away but at least we can start exercising a little bit more freely and there is a genuine hope of a return to the playing field later in the year!
Touch Rugby's very own "SA Rugby National panel Referee" Aimee Barrett Theron has kept herself busy during lockdown producing a really great practical video for 6 Down Touch Reffing Hand Signals.
She has also decided to utilise the down time to present some online 6 Down Touch Reffing courses. The courses are highly recommended, not only, for anyone looking to take up refereeing, but also for anyone looking to learn about the game of 6 Down Touch and refine their knowledge of the rules of the game!
Please check out the video and flyer for the courses... All further info can be obtained by contacting Terri on 083 324 0375.
Missing you all and looking forward to hopefully seeing you soon
Stay safe

Dear Touch Player
Please excuse the long message but I felt we all have a bit of time on our hands 😊 so I could take the liberty of being a bit liberal. If you feel it is too much reading, feel free to skip to the last bits of the “essay” for the main part of the message minus the philosophical side!
It’s been just under 6 weeks since our last official communication and suspension of all leagues. Hard to believe the time has passed so quickly (although at times in this lockdown, it certainly hasn’t felt so quick). It was always our goal to complete the Summer league before Ramadan and that time is upon us, however the league isn’t complete ☹
I think whilst we initially called for a 2-week suspension for the leagues, we may have realised it would be longer, however not many of us could have foreseen the way this whole situation has played out.
Whilst during this time, we have sometimes selfishly slated the situation and criticised and hurled abuse at anyone who we could find to release our frustrations on (many a referee are very happy there is no league on at the moment 😉), the reality is there is absolutely nothing we can do…
As with most of the people I have spoken to via WhatsApp/skype/zoom/telegram/Facebook/Instagram and every other social media tool out there, emotions come in waves; positively and negatively and it seems the only way to get a grip of things; Is to breath really deeply and accept that we have no control outside of our little enclaves, we can only control the controlables! Another reality is that many are far worse off than ourselves and we need to be sensitive to this and try wherever and whatever we can, to assist them…
We have been playing with some ideas as to involving some sort of charity/donation/challenge but as yet have not come up with something unique enough to inspire people to contribute! We are therefor encouraging you all in the meantime to search through the number of welfare organisations online and give whatever you can to be able to try and effect some sort of change in the people’s lives who are most affected!
Having spoken to a number of you directly, we know how much you are missing not being able to be on the field. The opportunity to run in open spaces and let your bodies and minds just breathe in that freedom or enjoy that competitive spirit with friends and opponents… We are missing it unbelievably!!!
At this stage, we have no indication as to what or how things are going to turn out in the short, medium and long term, and making any sorts of plans (trust me, we come up with a new one every 2/3 days around finishing the Summer season, starting Winter, having shortened Summer and Winter with doubling up game nights etc…), is not only a waste of time but often highly de-motivating! We have therefore decided to be as positive as we can and just believe that when things eventually start to happen, we will implement the best plans at that time!
Many people have sent us some amazing Touch Footage over the past few weeks including old clips dating as far back as 2003. To fill up some time, we will be posting a few of these and some other touch content in order to keep us all a little reminiscent and together in these tough times! If you have any clips, please feel free to send them through to [email protected] or 0824923683 and we will add them to our social media content!
Wishing all our Muslim players, coaches and supporters all the blessings of the holy month and a Ramadan Mubarak. Have a good weekend ahead! Stay safe!
Regards
Grahame, Niel and Andrew
