Algoa Cup Day

18/10/2026

FAIRVIEW UPDATE: SUNDAY, 18 OCTOBER 2026

Gqeberha, South Africa – 4Racing advises that Fairview has received 12mm of rain overnight. With more rain predicted throughout the day, the Algoa Cup Meeting unfortunately has to be moved to the Polytrack.

Penetrometer tests conducted this morning (18 October 2026) are returning inconsistent readings of 40-45, and following consultation with trainers and jockeys, it has been decided to move the Algoa Cup Meeting for Sunday, 18 October from the Turf track to the Polytrack.

While it is extremely regrettable that the meeting cannot be held on the turf track, the 4Racing and Fairview track management teams need to prioritise the safety of horses and riders above all else.

Race 1: the distance will change from 1800m to 1900m.

All other distances remain the same.

Card changes will be disseminated in due course.

Please Note:
Due to 12mm of overnight rain and a high Pen reading, today's Fairview meeting (18 Oct) has been moved from Turf to Poly. Race 1 will now be run over 1900m instead of 1800m. Voluntary scratchings close at 9:40.

Hollywoodbets Durbanville
Justin Snaith comments:

_Race 1_
- Auguste Renoir caught the eye on debut and he will run a similar race and should make the frame.
- Gallic Charm should need a run or two before we see the best of him. He does have ability and is capable of causing an upset.
- Market Leader will be green on debut and will need a lot further to be effective.
- Fair Fate looks the one to beat and good value at 5-1.

_Race 2_
- ~Princess Warrior takes no part~
- Sauterelle has improved since her debut and will be the filly to beat. She is worth a bet and must be included in all multiples.

_Race 3_
- A Thousand Stars ran nicely on debut and another good run is expected.
- Evelyn Johnson has shown nice ability and could sneak into minor money on debut.
- Getorix Princess will be very tough to beat.

_Race 4_
- Future Call’s first run can be ignored after equipment issues. He will run a vastly improved race.
- Skytura ran a fabulous race on debut and we are hoping for a similar run.
- World Supreme is far better than his debut suggests. He must be included in all bets. He can easily pop up.

_Race 5_
- Beware The Bomb is having her second run after a long break and will be back to her best next time out.
- Eight On Eighteen is flying back home and will be the horse to beat despite the shorter 1400m trip. His class should carry him through. On WFA Terms, he is the best horse in South Africa, and he is expected to maintain his impressive record over the summer.
- Eric Liddell will need this first run back after a long break and he needs a lot further.
- Randolph Hearst is doing great and this is his optimal trip. He’ll go very close.

_Race 6_
- Le Soleil takes on Continue The Dream, widely rumoured as the early horse to beat in this year’s Gr1 Cape Guineas. Le Soleil is impressing us at home and he will go very close. He’s great value at 7-1.
- Royal Light has his first run out the maidens and we are hoping for a competitive run.

_Race 7_
- Golden Shimmer carries little weight but does take a big jump in class.
- Verse For Suzanne is a smart sort and will have a winning shout despite having her first run out the maidens. We believe she’ll be headed for the Gr1 Fillies Guineas if she continues to improve.

Wonderful Algoa Cup memories in these two videos:

Jacques Strydom winning with Firealley in 2024

Gavin Smith saddling 7 winners on Algoa Cup Day 2022 (sharing the EC record with Justin Snaith & Alan Greeff) - nearly 8 with Jaeger Moon second in the Algoa Cup
