The Journeyman Angler

A few good Kob off the shore over the last few months including my personal best of 135cm/+-60lb.
Always a great fight and when I felt the head shakes and the weight I knew it was a beaut. It felt like forever until the beaut reached the shores.
Got a quick (sh*tty) pic but was stoked to see it swim off hassle free upon release.
Also the first time I have heard one of these fish grunt when landed. A process I believe to be referred to as "drumming".

Some pics from Easter week and some.. No giants but a few species including Rockod, Roman, Musselcracker and plenty of Elf. Got my PB Roman of 45cm. Unfortunately the bigger elf were absent and the Cracker and Cob scarce but there will always be a next time!
Thats goodbye to the summer fishing and will be targeting Steenbras and hoping to hone in on a few plus size gallies this winter!

Had a fun weekend doing some estuary fishing for a change! Caught some leeries and a bunch of small elf on topwater which was fun. That's the beauty of fishing.. there are so many different facets that test your skills differently.

First little mission for 2023
Got two young silver cob on prawn and bloodworm combo intended for Steenbras.
The sea was about 14° and unexpectedly flat due to what I think may be the swell direction 😅. The fish bit very "skelm" and were both lip hooked!

So comes to an end the annual December break! Was a bit of a working holiday this time around but managed to get some down time eventually and spent quality time with a bunch of friends and relatives which was great..

The fishing.... Big dissapointment...
Managed the two great Crackers from the previous post and a few Cob but other than that it was just a bunch of Smooth-Hound Sharks and some bank fish... The shore fishing was tough in general and I probably went a bit too hard after the Cobbies when there weren't too many around. In hindsight I should have tried to enjoy myself more with a bit of scratching and so on.

Already have a few things that I'm looking to improve on and a few plans going forward, so really excited to see what 2023 holds!

Some more critters from the winter months..! Got some nice Steenies and a few Galjoen by-catch (still waiting for the giant) and also a nice Cob of just over a metre.

I have had a bit of a break from fishing, but am really looking forward to targeting some Cob this summer and maybe a few Cracker.
