Competent crew training:
The reality is that the weather changes frequently and sometimes violently⚡️☀️🌧
Cruising in calm conditions is easy and requires little attention as the consequences of mistakes are negligible.
And while a Skippers duty is to be aware of weather reports (predictions) and synoptic charts (actual weather conditions), often local conditions can differ vastly from weather reports 🤔
In these conditions, it becomes especially important to understand safe seamanship as crew.
Loads on winches and blocks increase exponentially, decks become slippery, boats can move more violently, and mistakes becomes matters of consequences (injury and breakages).

Well done to our competent crew who faced Cape Town winter head on and excelled. From 4 knots surrounded by dolphins to hail and 38knot gusts in the rain 🌧

Now Cape Town... a few sunny days would be lovely.... please 🙏

Our latest group of Coastal Skippers all passed their exams! 🙂🤟
This was a fun group with Paul, a local FBYC sailor, Rafe, a Zimbabwean sailor, and Shawn, a repeat customer, all bringing their own unique experiences to the course. ⛵️
While the weather tried its hardest to deter us, we managed to still have a blast 🔥
Good luck to these sailors as they set a course for the horizon with plans to sail the world's oceans!

December was a whirlwind month🌪. In December 2023, we managed 1 course due to the relentless SE gale. In 2024, we managed 4 groups of Day Skippers/Coatsal Skippers thanks to a very high South Atlantic High Pressure System this year. It was a fantastic month of sailing!

This group of Day Skippers consisted of 2 up-country customers who requested a private course. We look forward to welcoming them back in March this year for the Coastal Skipper ticket! ⛵️
Congratulations to them on passing their day skipper exams and radio course ⚓️
