They look as though the earth itself has been lifted and left at an angle.

Across Gariwerd (the Grampians), millions of years of pressure and shifting ground transformed vast layers of red sandstone into steep, tilted ridges rising above the surrounding plains.

At , runners don’t simply pass through this ancient landscape. They climb it, follow it and experience its scale with every step. 🪨

💧 Before they became trails, they were pathways for water.

The levadas were built to channel water across Madeira’s rugged terrain, carrying it to the farmland where it was needed most. Over time, these narrow waterways became woven into the island’s landscape, history and way of life.

Today, parts of the MIUT - Madeira Island Ultra Trail routes run alongside them, following paths used by generations of Madeirans long before the race ever existed.

What makes a race one of a lifetime? 🤔

It isn’t only the distance, the elevation or the finish line. It’s arriving somewhere you’ve never been, discovering a landscape one step at a time and meeting a version of yourself that only appears when the trail gets tough.

Across deserts, islands, forests, rice terraces and mountains, every World Trail Majors race tells a different story.

You don’t just finish them. You carry them with you.

🌆 It begins with the energy of Hong Kong. Fast, vibrant, always in motion.

Then, the trails take over.

The city gives way to steep climbs, rugged terrain and the unmistakable intensity of HK100. A different rhythm, but the same relentless energy. ⛰️

Every step reveals a different side of the island. Every kilometre feels like entering a new world.

This is Transgrancanaria. This is trail running across a whole continent in miniature. 🌋

Before the records, the legendary finishes and the thousands of runners from around the world, there was a first start. 🇯🇵

On 18 May 2012, 852 runners gathered for the inaugural ULTRA-TRAIL Mt.FUJI.

Ahead of them lay 156 kilometres, approximately 8,530 metres of elevation gain and a complete journey around Japan’s most iconic mountain. Forests, steep technical terrain, temples, towns and constantly changing views of Mount Fuji shaped an adventure with a 48-hour time limit.

Julien Chorier became the race’s first men’s champion, crossing the finish line in 18:53:12. Nerea Martínez Urruzola wrote her name into its history as the first women’s winner in 24:05:04.

That first edition laid the foundations for everything that followed.

Fourteen years later, the name and course may have evolved, but the mountain continues to watch over every step. The story that began in 2012 lives on today as Mt.FUJI 100 and as part of World Trail Majors. 🌍

This is where the legend began.
