Happy 2024 everybody!

One of my goals for the new year is to focus on strength training and lifting weights. I am still fairly strong but I used to be even stronger. I want to lift heavy and use my strength training in a functional way so I can do cool things like go on hikes, and be an active mom for my kid and family. I don’t want to miss out on moments and fun because I’m physically unable to participate with my hubby and my son and their memory making 🥰.

So I went to the gym today. I chose to do a leg & ab workout I have done in the past. One that I know and enjoy but that’s also challenging.

All I can say is WOW 👀.

Boy oh boy - today was an incredibly humbling experience. I struggled. Big time.

It can feel quite disheartening & extremely frustrating to struggle at doing something that you know you previously managed well.
But if all you focus on is what you can’t (yet) do then that’s all you’re going to see.

Remember: comparison is the thief of joy. 💫

Yes I’m not where I want to be. But I still showed up. Day 1 of 2024 and I was in the gym. The first Monday of a new year and I was at that squat rack sweating bullets.

It’s a new year and I am looking forward to seeing where my fitness journey takes me.

Myth Mondays FTW!!!

Myth: Muscle weighs more than fat.

Fact: Muscle is more DENSE than fat.

1 kg of marshmallows is going to take up a lot more space vs 1 kg of steel. But all kgs are created equal.

Muscle being more dense than fat means it take up less space at the same weight.

Myth Mondays!

Myth: drastically reducing your calorie intake works.

Fact: Yes, you need a calorie deficit in order to lose weight but you have to make sure that deficit isn’t too great that it leads to lethargy, nutritional deficiencies and likely to have you end up binging because the self control required to maintain this kind of extreme diet won’t last long.

YOU DONT NEED TO STARVE YOURSELF OR DEPRIVE YOURSELF to achieve you weight loss or health & fitness goals.

Myth Mondays!

Myth: Green-tea supplements burn fat.

Fact: Green-tea extract may promote weight loss. But taking a green-tea supplement or drinking cup after cup of the tea itself isn’t likely to produce significant or lasting weight loss.

A stimulant will cause you to burn calories if it causes you to move more. And green tea contains a fair amount of caffeine, aka a stimulant. Also, green tea suppresses appetite meaning if you’re drinking it you’re more likely to eat less and be in a calorie deficit. But remember, this is unlikely to be sustainable long term, especially if the deficit is too great.

Caffeine can affect heart rhythms and disrupt sleep, so steer clear of caffeine-based supplements if you’re sensitive to caffeine.
