Day 8: the final stage of riding 2026 as an average cyclist 🦏
185.6 km and 1,445 m of climbing in 11 hours of moving time, my longest day of the race, finishing in the dark in front of the Graaff-Reinet church. Over 8 days that’s 1,038 km and 12,891 m of climbing. Done.
Huge thanks to Peet for every kilometre together, and to everyone who cheered, messaged and donated. We’ve raised R11,543 from 19 donors for the orphan rhinos at , who drink up to 21 litres of milk a day. The page stays open if you’d still like to help: link in bio.

Day 7 of riding 2026 as an average cyclist
161 km and 1,379 m of climbing from Uniondale to Marlu, with 9 and a half hours in the saddle. I’m 831 km in and the last stage is all that’s left, 184 km to the finish in Graaff-Reinet tomorrow. The legs are tired, but the tailwind helped.

Day 6 of riding TheRhinoRun 2026 as an average cyclist. We did 112.7 km from Oudtshoorn to Uniondale with 1,956 m of climbing, along the Kamanassie River, through Paardepoort and up the Kleinspoort climb. That was 7h32 moving and just over 10 hours on the road.
That’s 670 km done, with about 345 km to go to Graaff-Reinet.

Day 4 and Day 5 of riding TheRhinoRun 2026 as an average cyclist. Back on the bike after the rest day at Rooiberg Lodge, and it’s one pedal stroke at a time towards Graaff-Reinet.

Day 3 done, and it was a tough one. 123 km with 2,471 m of climbing, taking in the R322 climbs past Grootvadersbosch, the Duiwenhoks Dam climb, Gysmanshoek Pass and the gravel through Muiskraal, then from Van Wyksdorp towards Rooiberg Pass. 10h46 moving and almost 16 hours on the road.
We’re taking a rest day at Rooiberg Lodge to recover before the next push.

Day 2 done. We rolled out past Robertson and McGregor, through Bonnievale and Swellendam, then over Tradouw Pass to Barrydale, and called it a night at Moodie Family Farm. Tired legs, full hearts.
My original tracker has not been working, so I’ve moved to tracker #40. It still shows Ryan Flinn’s name on the live map for now, but that’ll be updated soon.

Rhino run Day 1 done. Tired legs, happy heart.
Heads up: my tracker didn’t send a position today, so I’m not on the live map yet. I’m sorting it out with the event team. I’ll keep posting updates here in the meantime.
