South Africa’s National Flower 🇿🇦 ❤️

Protea cynaroides, also called the king protea, is a flowering plant. It is a distinctive member of Protea, having the largest flower head in the genus. The species is also known as giant protea, honeypot or king sugar bush.

The giant or king protea is widely distributed in the south-western and southern areas of the Western Cape, from the Cedarberg up to just east of Grahamstown. The artichoke-like appearance of the flower-heads of the king protea lead to the specific name 'cynaroides', which means 'like cynara' (the artichoke).

Farm stays are rad stays! ⛰🌞
On a recent trip to the Overberg region in the Western Cape I stayed at the wonderful , hosted by Kirsten & Gerd.

Super chilled, immersive, peaceful & quite farm in a valley in Sandies Glen, between Stanford & Napier.

Here you can do Horse riding through pristine Fynbos along mountain tracks, hike, ride or 4x4 up to a secluded dam and enjoy swimming in a spring water fed dam.

Awesome accommodation & great value. You can also eat some of the organic produce from the farm, we got eggs, tomatoes & cucumber 😋.

Enjoy the magnificent Proteas which they also grow & all the activities and produce available in the area.

R.I.P Sweet little Thandi. Such an incredible creature. So brave, tough as they come, cute, fun and so loving. Thanks for 17yrs of adventures. Go join your bro, hunt, chase, run up trees, jump out of cars, take on dogs 10 times your size, run the fastest, pluck birds out the sky and eat all the biltong imaginable🧡

I recently went on a much needed nature trip, camping & farm stay.

Tried to digital detox as much as possible hence the late post...

Rad & easy spot to camp on the banks of the Buffelsjagsrivier Dam & 10km form Swellendam. Super chilled, dog friendly, great views. Ideal for swimming, fishing, canoeing, hiking, boat cruising or even micro light!

Also good value.

Incredible views, enchanted forests, pure streams & unbelievable bird life.
