Elite Ex*****on: Reading the Goalie on the Counter 🧠

A fast break isn't just about speed - it’s about high-speed decision-making.

In this NCAA Women's Final breakdown, we look at the mechanics of a perfect cross-cage finish.

When scoring a counter, the first-time finish to the close corner is usually the standard choice because the goalie is caught trailing the pass. But what happens when the pass is long and the goalie has the time to recover?

The Breakdown:
👀 The Read: The attacker receives a long pass and instantly recognizes that the goalie has shifted to lock down the close corner.
🦾 The Adjustment: Instead of forcing a low-percentage shot into the goalie's block, she stays composed and anticipates the keeper's momentum.
🔒 The Ex*****on: A clinical, 90-degree cross-cage finish.

This is the standard of tactical awareness required at the highest level. Great speed gets you down the pool, but a great read puts the ball in the back of the net.

The team has spent the final training blocks increasing intensity to match the physical and tactical demands required to compete in Slovakia.
