A week of high-level competition and a whole lot of learning. 🇿🇦

Elevate's Head of Performance Duncan Woods reflects on the Men's Next Generation Cup experience in Barcelona.

With players coming together across three different age groups, the challenge was not only competing internationally, but building team chemistry, developing tactics and learning to perform together against some of Europe's strongest U18/U19 club teams.

From training at BIWPA Academy to competing at Club Sabadell, the team gained valuable exposure to the speed, intensity and standards of international water polo.

There were big wins, tough lessons and a nail-biting finish against Palermo, but perhaps the biggest takeaway was seeing what is possible when South African players are given regular exposure to high-level international competition.

The journey doesn't end here. It's only the beginning.

Applications for the 2027 Next Generation Cup Tour are closing soon.

🌍 Train in Barcelona
🏆 Compete internationally
🤽 Test yourself against some of the world's best young players
📈 Come home with a clearer understanding of what it takes to reach the next level

Barcelona, what an experience 🇪🇸

Our Elevate Men’s and Women’s teams took on the Next Generation Cup in Barcelona, competing against some of the strongest youth teams in Europe and gaining invaluable experience along the way.

From training together and building team chemistry, to stepping into high-level competition and facing some seriously tough opposition, this tournament was about more than the results. It was about learning, adapting and seeing what it takes to compete at the next level.

Our Women’s team finished their tournament with a strong win over Lazio, while the Men’s team pushed through some incredibly close games, including a nail-biting finish against Palermo and 2 wins vs Great Britain.

Most importantly, both teams showed just how much South African water polo can grow when our players are given more exposure to international competition.

A huge well done to every player, coach and everyone behind the teams. We’re proud of the progress, proud of the fight, and excited for what’s next💙
