“My contract with New Zealand Rugby only begins in 2028, so there is still a long road ahead before that comes into play,” he said in a SA Rugby statement. “Right now, I am fully committed to the Springboks. What we are building and trying to achieve as a team over the next two years is my only focus.”
In a Springboks statement Rassie also expressed his opinion on the situation
“Tony has made a remarkable difference, both on and off the field, and he has always been upfront with us about wanting to be closer to his family and about the All Blacks holding a special place in his heart, and we are genuinely delighted for him,” he said.

Ben Youngs on why Janse van Rensburg has been selected over Lawrence and Ojomoh
“He is someone that is extremely physical but he’s got more subtleties than that. You look at the way Bristol play, they move the ball, they have subtleties, they play with great width and you can’t be a centre in the Bristol mould, and the way they play, without having great distribution skills,” he said on the For The Love of Rugby podcast.
“The big point that Benhard also brings is you look off lineouts, you look off launches, his ability to actually carry through traffic and win momentum and gain line.
“You look at Max Ojomoh, can he distribute? Absolutely. Physically he’s not a big guy in stature and he hasn’t had a lot of go’s, so we don’t quite know about him yet.
“Ollie Lawrence is physical, brings all that and has a lot of Test experience but doesn’t have the distribution.”
He added: “When you look at Janse van Rensburg, he does cover both. He covers you in the sense of distribution but there’s also a bit of an edge to how he plays.“

Former All Blacks manager Darren Shand on Richie McCaw
“He was deliberate with that, incredibly deliberate and consistent about learning in that space, as much as he was improving about passing and tackling and all those things. When others saw him doing that [improving his leadership], our other leaders jumped onto that bandwagon too.
“It’s not turning up for a meeting once a week and I’m called a leader, it was actually, ‘This is a skill, I’ve got to learn it more, I’ve got to trial it and I need help, I need to ask people to help me with it.”
Shand added: “He got quite isolated at times, Richie. Probably his two best mates were the two most diverse people, Andrew H***e and Ali Williams. That is who he spent a lot of time with, and I was, ‘Wow, where did that come from?’… I just loved that he was prepared to step forward and he would always step into things.”
