A busy weekend for our Cape Winelands Judo WESCA athletes! 🥋

On Friday they trained at Paarl Judo Club, working on grips, technique and randori on the mat.

On Saturday they headed to the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport for a strength and conditioning session with pull-ups, kettlebells, medicine ball work and air bike rounds. 💪

Strength and fitness are a big part of becoming a better judoka, both on and off the mat.

Together we are building the next generation of Cape Winelands judoka. 🙏

WESTERN CAPE SPORT ACADEMY ATHLETE SHINES AT THE ISU DIAMOND SPIN 2026 🥇🇿🇦

Western Cape Sport Academy athlete Gian-Quen Isaacs wins GOLD in the Senior Women division at the ISU Diamond Spin 2026 in Katowice, Poland!

In an incredible display of resilience, Gian-Quen climbed from 6th place after the Short Program to secure the overall title with a score of 152.73 — becoming the first South African female figure skater to win this prestigious international event.

BEHIND THE PERFORMANCE: THE POWER OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT 💙💛

Success in high-performance sport goes beyond physical preparation. WECSA's psychological support formed part of Gian-Quen's preparation for the demands of international competition.

Reflecting on the impact of this support, Gian-Quen shared:

_“The psychological preparation I received ahead of the ISU Diamond Spin Trophy was extremely valuable in helping me approach the competition with a positive and confident mindset. It helped me manage my nerves, trust my training and focus on my performance rather than the pressure of the result. Competing internationally comes with its own challenges, and having that mental support made a meaningful difference in my preparation. Winning gold was an incredible achievement, and I am grateful to WECSA for recognising the importance of mental preparation and supporting me on this journey.”_

Congratulations, Gian-Quen! We are proud to support you on your journey to excellence. 🥇💙💛
