🏆 Eastern Province Road Championships

A huge weekend for the team, with strong racing and a clean sweep of both podiums!

Saturday | Time Trial ⏱️
A short, sharp, full-gas opener saw James Swart take the win, followed by Zane Salzwedel in 2nd and Kellan in 3rd. A full podium sweep to start the weekend. 🥇🥈🥉

Sunday | Road Race 🚴
Cold and wet conditions made for a tough day of racing. Kellan, James and Simon broke clear early, before Brad and Rhys bridged across, putting five riders at the front.

The team worked together until the final lap, when the attacks started flying. Simon launched a huge move with 2km to go, but after he was brought back, Kellan countered and powered away to take the Eastern Province Road Race title! 🥇

Brad took 2nd, with Rhys in 3rd to complete another podium sweep. 🥈🥉

A seriously strong weekend of teamwork, strength and smart racing. 💪🚴

The Amashova National Classic is one of the toughest races on the South African calendar and remains one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious events, making it a race every rider wants to perform well in.

Racing began at an incredibly high pace, with attacks flying from the opening kilometres before, during, and after the iconic Fox Hill climb—a section that has historically played a decisive role in shaping the outcome of the race. James and Simon rode attentively throughout this phase, ensuring the team was represented in the key moves while fighting to stay at the front as the race split over the climb.
Unfortunately, we missed the breakaway that ultimately established itself at the front of the race, forcing us onto the back foot for much of the day.

With approximately 35 kilometres remaining, it became clear there was still an opportunity to bring the race back together and contest the remaining podium positions in a bunch sprint.
Simon put in a tremendous effort on the front of the peloton, working alongside riders from several other teams to steadily reduce the advantage of the breakaway. Their commitment paid off as the escape was gradually reeled in, leaving just a single rider clear of the bunch and setting the stage for a sprint to decide the remaining podium places.

The finale was typically fast and chaotic, with riders battling fiercely for position over the closing kilometres. Despite the intensity of the finish, James delivered an exceptional sprint, crossing the line fourth in the bunch to secure fifth place overall.

With only two riders on the start line, James and Simon produced a performance to be proud of. They raced with determination, remained committed to the team objective throughout the day, and demonstrated that they could compete against teams with significantly greater numbers. While the podium narrowly eluded us, their effort and professionalism throughout the race reflected the strength and character of the team.
