MEET STU
โI teach from a simple and honest place, focusing on the person in front of me. I keep it simple, safe, and strong, and help people find something real for themselves.โ
I started yoga in 2002 in London. My first class was rough. I felt stiff, awkward, completely out of my depth. But something about it stuck, so I kept going. Over time, that struggle turned into something I looked forward to. I remember walking to class one day and realising I was excited to be in my body again. That was the shift.
From there I went to India, trained in Ashtanga, and continued building my practice between London and Cape Town. Iโve worked across Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Power, Bikram, Yin, restorative, traditional mat yoga, and chair yoga. I also studied Shadow Yoga and kung fu, which shaped a more flowing, connected way of moving and teaching. Time spent learning from different cultures, including in South America, Africa, and India, broadened how I see the practice beyond just the physical. In 2010 I started a yoga business in Cape Town, which became a big part of my life and is now carried forward by Karen as a welcoming space for others.
At a certain point, I stepped back from yoga. I needed to reconnect with it for myself, not as a job. Coming back now, after more than 20 years, I teach from a simpler, more honest place, focusing on the person in front of me. Whether itโs traditional mat yoga or chair yoga, the aim is the same, keep it simple, safe, and strong, and help people find something real for themselves.
And if nothing else, at least leave feeling a little better than when you walked inโฆ even if your hamstrings still have something to say about it. ๐
The magic of a yoga studio isnโt just the classes โ itโs the people who make it what it is. ๐
A little behind-the-scenes from todayโs content shoot with some of the incredible humans who share their energy, knowledge and passion with our community every day.

4 years at Black River Park ๐โจ
And now moving through our 16th year as Yo Yoga. ๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ๐ฟ
From Claremont, to Pinelands, back to Claremont, and now settled into our home in Observatory โ each space has held its own memories, community and chapter of the journey. ๐ค
Whatโs remained constant through it all is the heart of the practice and the people who fill the room.
The familiar faces, the deep breaths, the post-class chats, the sweaty flows, the stillness, the growth. ๐
Thank you for continuing to move with us through every season over the years. Whether youโve been here since the early days or only recently rolled out a mat at Yo, weโre so grateful youโre part of this space. โจ๐ฟ
Hereโs to many more years of movement, connection and community at Black River Park. ๐

Horse pose reminds us to stay grounded through the fire โ building strength, focus, and resilience together. โจ๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ
Thereโs something powerful about moving as one community. ๐ค
Balance isnโt built in the easy moments. ๐ฟ
Itโs built in the wobble, the focus, the breath, and the decision to stay present.
Tree and Toe Stand teaching steadiness from the inside out. ๐คโจ
