“But Sandra doesn’t really hike.“
That is almost always the first sentence — from the woman planning the trip for her book club, her sisters, or the friends she has known for thirty years.
Here is our honest answer.
Most of our trails are Level 2 or 3 — steady, not steep. They are chosen for exactly this kind of group. Every trail has shuttle support if someone needs to sit out a day. The pace is managed. Nobody walks alone at the back. Nobody feels rushed at the front.
The trail is not a competition. It is a shared experience with real people, real conversations, and the kind of quiet moments that only happen when you have walked together for a few days.
Sandra will be fine. And you will stop lying awake worrying about her.
Trails currently open for 2027 — Shoreline of the San, West Coast, Tipwreck Trail & Wilderness Walk, Garden Route, Hantam Hike & Namibia.

"Many years ago I had the privilege to drive Anette Grobler to the Ugab gate and back for her solo walk through the Skeleton Coast. Unforgettable what women can achieve! Well done, Silent Steps!"
— Sonita Arangies
Sonita, thank you. That drive was longer than you know.
The Ugab gate is where the Skeleton Coast begins. From there, the coastline stretches on for hundreds of kilometres — no towns, no cellphone signal, no help within a day's reach. Fog that rolls in without warning. Whale bones and shipwrecks lying where the ocean left them. The Portuguese sailors who first navigated it called it the Gates of Hell.
I walked into it alone. And I made it back.
That walk gave me the certainty to build Silent Steps — ten years ago this year. Not to prove anything. Not to sell an adventure. Simply to share what the coast had shown me, with people who had never thought it was theirs to see.
Ten years, seven trails and thousands of kilometres later, we walk the Namibian coast in a very different way. In small guided groups. With shuttles, comfortable beds, gourmet meals overlooking the sea, and a team that has walked every step of every route before you. Nothing is left to chance.
And still — the coast does what it has always done. It quiets people down. It gives them back to themselves.
Most of our guests are women in their 50s, 60s and 70s. Some come with their book club. Some come with a daughter or a sister. Some come alone, having promised themselves for years that they would. Every one of them leaves standing a little taller than when she arrived.
That is what Sonita saw at the Ugab gate, all those years ago. What women can achieve, when they are quietly given the chance to try.
If Namibia has been on your list, this is the year to make it real.

Sunday evening. This is when the year gets planned.
If June 2027 is the year you finally walk the Camino — read this before the week starts again.

"Shoreline hike in '24 – beautiful, well organised – what a treat!"
— Susan Murray, Google Review
Well organised.
Of all the words a hiker could use, that is the one we cherish most.
Because on the Shoreline of the San, it is the difference between a holiday you talk about and a holiday you forget. It means Marika, Johnnie, Elrie or Ilze is on the beach before you are. It means the shuttle knows where to meet you. It means the beds are turned down at Vensterklip, that Muisbosskerm has your table booked, that Fryer's Cove has the wine waiting in the harbour at Doringbaai — and that nobody in the group is left to figure anything out for themselves.
That is what Susan felt in 2024. And it is what every guest feels — because that is the promise we make.
The trail is 50 km along one of the most extraordinary stretches of coastline in the country. Sleepovers in Elands Bay, Lambert's Bay and Doringbaai. Beaches only a handful of people have ever walked. Caves, coves, and 30 000-year-old San footsteps in rock.
Fitness rating 2 out of 5 — walkable in mixed groups, with shuttle support along the way for anyone who needs it.
Thank you, Susan. Reviews like yours mean everything.

The Fish River did not allow us to walk her full journey this time. The massive amount of water in the river, caused by the heavy rains in the catchment area, reminded us of the power and strength of nature.
The Fish River is not just a route on a map — it is a sacred place, hallowed ground with its own spirit and character. She decides when she allows you to move through her canyon. We can make the plans, set the dates and prepare ourselves, but ultimately nature determines our pace.
We do not walk against her; we walk with her. This time, the lesson was not only in the kilometres we would have covered, but in respect, patience, and understanding that some places are greater than our own plans. The Fish River will be there — and when she opens her paths again, we will return with even greater appreciation. We will remain ever humbled by nature's force.
