He unsubscribed from our community... He’s going to a World Cup.
Yesterday, Rich unsubscribed from our community.
Then I read the rest of his message.
He’s been selected for the New Zealand Over 60s squad to compete at the World Cup.
That was his goal when we first spoke in May 2022.
Not “improve a bit.”
Not “see how it goes.”
Make the squad.
On 2 May 2022, at the end of his season, he paid a deposit to secure his place to start when he returned to New Zealand after spending the winter in Portugal.
He didn’t start immediately.
He left for Portugal for the entire NZ winter.
We began at the end of September.
No urgency.
No panic.
Just a clear objective and a long-term decision.
Almost four years later, that decision delivered.
He wrote:
“The clarity around process, structure and mindset made a huge difference, especially under pressure.”
Especially under pressure.
That’s where most players get exposed.
We didn’t chase runs or technical quick fixes.
We installed a clear, repeatable processes in:
• How thinks
• How he trains
• How he plays matches
• How he resets after each innings
Over time, that process becomes instinct.
He still uses it almost daily.
That’s the objective.
Not dependence on a community.
Independence in the middle.
Most players drift season to season.
Serious players define the target first then commit to the work required to make it inevitable.
He said he wanted to make the squad.
Four years later, he did.
If you’re frustrated with your current results, stop asking whether you’re skillful enough.
Start asking whether you’re deliberate enough.
Comment PROCESS and I'll show you how Rich did it.

Is your grip handicapping your Batting?
Your grip can have a domino effect on your ability to score runs. It can impact you physically and mentally
The last thing you need when you’re out in the middle is a mind cluttered with technical thoughts because you need to be present to see and react to the ball
And if you’re worrying about your grip and things like…
❓Are your v’s aligned
❓Is your grip pressure too loose or too tight
❓Is your top hand weak
❓Is your bottom hand too strong
❓Should my hands me in the middle of the handle
❓Am I holding the bat too low or too high
All these thoughts cause uncertainty and prevent you from being present
It all starts with the grip
Your grip will determine how consistently you can present the full face of the bat through the ball for all strokes
Which means it has a HUGE impact on the quality and consistency of your ball striking
It also determines which areas of the field you can access
And it has an impact on your Bat Flow which also impacts your timing, scoring areas and ultimately your strike rate
Your grip is INCREDIBLY important
Which is why I’m hosting a Live Workshop tomorrow, Find Your Grip for 360 Scoring
You’re an individual and the grip is not a one size fits all thing
So I’m going to help you get crystal clear clarity on the different types of grip
We’ll dive into Sir Donald Bradman’s grip and there will be Q&A throughout
By the end of the Workshop you’ll know if your grip is limiting your scoring options
You’ll no longer make unnecessary adjustments to your grip
We’ll remove any doubts you’ve got about your grip so you can be present in matches
And we’ll Find YOUR Grip for 360 Scoring
BONUS: The first 50 registrants will get an awesome gift from me and there are still a few gifts left
Concerned you can't make the Live Workshop? You'll get access to the recording once it's been edited into sections for easy consumption plus all the bonus material

Strong through the legside and struggle to play through the covers? Chances are you’ve got an issue with your grip
Strong through the covers and can’t play legside? Chances are you’ve got an issue with your grip
Beware of making the wrong or unnecessary changes to your grip that hurt your game
If you can consistently present the full face of the bat through the ball and score freely around the ground there is no need to make changes
If you can’t, chances are you need a grip adjustment
But the grip is not a one size fits all thing and because I’m tired of seeing players being confused trying to find the best grip that will work for them
And because I don’t want you to tinker around and experiment using trial and error which can really hurt your confidence and scoring
I’m inviting you to join me this Friday at the live workshop I’m hosting where I will help you 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟯𝟲𝟬 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴

🏏 I’ll show you how to check if your grip is limiting your play
🛞 I’ll share the grip I advocate players use for 360 scoring
🐐 We’ll take a look at Donald Bradman’s grip
❔ And there will be Q&A throughout the workshop to make sure you Find YOUR Grip for 360 Scoring
If you haven’t registered yet you’ll want to do it today because the price goes up tomorrow

There's so much crap out there about grips and bat flow
It's a minefield
The thing I can't stand the most is when coaches apply a one size fits all approach
And say things like: "Your hands have to be together" or "You have to hold the bat in the middle of the grip"
Another shocker..
"Your hands have to stay close to your body and under your eyes" when players like Brian Lara, Javed Miandad, Steve Smith and plenty more who average over 50 in Test cricket didn't keep theirs tight
The reality is you are an individual and the grip is not a one size fits all thing and because it isn't I'm hosting a Live Workshop next Friday
Where I'm going to help you get clarity on the different types of grip and help you Find Your Grip for 360 Scoring
We'll also take a look at Sir Donald Bradman's grip and his views on different grips
Early Bird tickets are available till 27 October for just £25 because I want to help as many of you possible find the best grip for you to score 360
The price increases to £50 on 28/10 then £75 on 30/10 because I want you to take action early
BONUS: The first 50 registrants will also get an awesome surprise gift from me
Concerned you might not be able to attend?
Don't worry, I've got you covered, the workshop will be recorded and edited then posted in our member portal with all the bonuses for you to watch
Drop a comment to secure your place so I can help you find your grip for 360 scoring
All the best

It's all about the grip...
My 2nd fundamental for successful batting is the grip
Your grip must allow you to consistently present the full face of the bat through the ball
And should allow you to score freely around the wicket
If you can't do these things then you need to evaluate your grip
Next Friday I'll be hosting a live workshop to help you get clarity on your grip because I'm tired of seeing players struggle with this

I used to hate most Sundays
There was nothing worse than waking up on Sunday after another missed opportunity to score runs
I was fortunate that I used to bowl 10-15 over each Saturday, sometimes 20
Most top order batsmen only bat, so it’s even worse for them
So I would always be involved in the game but even if I took wickets and didn’t score runs, Sunday would suck
Hours and hours in the nets on the bowling machine or having throwdowns to fail again
My coach and teammates always telling me how good I looked until I got out
Whenever I felt really good and things were flowing, I’d have the thought: “Jeez you’re playing well today” then the overthinking would start
What are you doing differently today?
Why are you moving so well?
Why are you seeing it so clearly?
Why can't it be like this every week?
And before I knew it… out
Another missed opportunity
If only I knew back then that it was going well because I was present and my over thinking took me out of the present moment
As this cycle repeated week after week I would start to lose confidence because I hadn’t got score
If only I had an after-match process to build my confidence regardless of my scores
Fortunately for the players I work with, my curse as a player became by strength as a coach
I might not have worked out how to remain present, consistently convert starts into meaningful scores or build my confidence regardless of how many runs I scored
But I have worked out how to coach dedicated and committed batsmen do all those things with online training and my 3 Step SIMPLE Batting Process
18/10/2024
We launched a new training this week called The Batting Evolution
It’s a little different to join The Inner Circle

Players so I can guide you while we work together to install our 3 Step Process into your game over 6 months

Becoming a banker the team can rely on to score runs, season after season requires 2 things
Yet most players spend their time chasing shiny objects, thinking there always needs to be a new concept or different perspective to install into their game
While the best players in the world focus on doing the basics (the stuff average players find boring) better than everyone else
Here’s an example
I recently hosted a Live Workshop – The Art of Picking Length
On the workshop I shared the process I use to help players unlock rapid change in their playing skills using the example of how I use the process to help players improve their ability to pick length
Now the process I use to help players unlock rapid change is exactly the same mental process I use to help them unlock a fearless mind so they can bat with confidence and freedom in matches
It’s the same mental process I use to help them maintain their focus to convert starts into meaningful scores
And it’s the same mental process I use to help them navigate pressure situations
Why is it the same process? Because it works and it simplifies batting
Most players I talk to are always trying to reinvent the wheel because they’re always reacting to low scores and dismissals trying to get a score or find some form
But to become a consistent run scorer the team can rely on you need to do the basics better than everyone else
The basics are having fundamentally sound playing skills and mental processes
Once those are in place all you need is consistency in two things…
Consistency in thought and action
That’s when the runs really start to flow and you become a banker the team can rely which is exactly what we will be doing inside The Batting Evolution

Playing cricket as an amateur batsman comes at a high cost
Spending one full day, sometimes two, over the weekend at cricket is an extremely high price of time
Add two team training sessions
Plus a session with a coach or teammate to hone your batting skills once a week
Before you can blink you’re investing 15 hours per week to cricket
And that doesn’t include travel time or drinks after practice and matches
20 hours or more per week away from your family, wife or girlfriend
That’s WHY it’s so important you enjoy that time
Which is where most players I talk to are falling short
Committing 20 hours per week to play below their potential, underperform and go home feeling frustrated and unfulfilled is not an effective use of time
Batting is supposed to be enjoyable
Time is the most expensive commodity in the world
Once it’s gone you can never get it back
Investing 20 hours a week into the game you love is a heavy price to play and underperform
Especially if the time invested isn’t effective
If you’re putting extra time into your game over and above team training and seeing no improvement in your enjoyment and performance
It’s probably time to take a step back and ask yourself how effective the work you’re doing is
Everything we do with players is about efficiency and effectiveness
The drill work we give players to do can be done at home in under 30 mins
And it’s extremely effective
When coupled with the right mental processes players have posted personal best scores including maiden 50’s and 100’s
Batting is supposed to be fun and you shouldn’t be spending hours and hours working on your technique without seeing improvement in your performance
That’s WHY I created The Batting Evolution
I want you to train less, improve faster and see REAL improvement in your enjoyment and performance by focussing on the right things
