Julia (5th Dan Aikikai) started Aikido 27 years ago with Matthias Lange and has been training in Hamburg ever since. Her development was significantly influenced by Christian Tissier Shihan and his students, including Pascal Guillemin. The late Anita Köhler († 2018) holds a special place for Julia, having influenced both her aikido and her sword work. She has found further important teachers in Jan Nevelius Shihan and Jorma Lyly, who are now a great inspiration to her. Julia’s special interest is in combining clear form with intensive contact. Central points are communication as well the efficiency of the principles. Julia has been an instructor at Aikido Zentrum Hamburg for over a decade and she regularly teaches seminars at other dojos.

As usual, if you’d like to be there but are struggling with money, come and talk to us?

Look forward to seeing you all on the mat very soon!

A new start after 60: I fought off four attackers – and earned my aikido black belt 23/05/2024

“Aikido was making me way more confident,” she says. “Since my reactions got quicker, my balance was better and my coordination improved. I had a real understanding of my own body and it became a metaphor for how to be in life; how to avoid attack without hurting the other person.”

One is never too old to start aikido 🙂 and at Cape Town Aikido we don't train in a way that you end up with a split lip 😉

"[Mother Theresa] says 'We do not great things, only small things with great love.'
Outside my door is a rock engraved with this saying. As I come and go from my house, I am reminded that if I pay attention to what is around me, I can become sensitive to the 'small things,' the fluctuations and nuances that appear and disappear in a moment. Appreciation of the richness of the moment extinguishes our sense of impoverishment. Perhaps we will discover that what arises in its place is the practice of love, and this practice of love will set us free."
Wendy Palmer "The Practice of Freedom"

Our beloved friend and teacher, Wendy Palmer, passed away on Friday. Thank you, Wendy, for all the rich moments, the love and the freedom you taught and shared with us. You will always be present in our hearts and in our practice ❤️
