Agave, the plant, famously known for tequila. It is used as a fibre, in construction and medically.
In this story we are using it as surf craft.
In June 2023 Dan & Tal from were visiting the KZN coastline. They added to their luggage a considered amount of agave blanks that they make in Kenya. We (, , ) each got a blank.
Mikko is the first to finish his board. He wanted a 5’10” fish which I shaped. He then flew with the shaped blank to Germany where he and his daughter did the artwork on the board before glassing.
This one of the many projects from the father daughter duo:

One of my boards came back home. A retro beauty. Although snapped.
I was asked to make a replica. I did. All is well again.

I love this shape - pig… and I love fabric inlays!
asked me to shape him a board and glass this fabric into the board. The cloth came from his wife who is a sangoma. It represents the water spirit.
