August Roundup
It's been wet and it's been windy and it's been hot out on the slopes :The mild winter and lack of rain is now becoming alarming.
However the cooler clear days with those awesome views are much appreciated.
-----------------------------------------------‐------------------------------------------
Trail Talk.
Level 5 access into Silvermine reserve is back open and great to be getting up and into Silvermine again.
The Donkey trail remains closed

DH0 partly open.
The team is busy with extensive repairs on DH0..The Top section still needs some work however the bottom section is open and acceptable from the Hairpin bend entrance.

The rest of the MTB trails are all open.
The Switchbacks are open but if you doing them for the first time ..do so cautiously and if you use clip-ins I always advise unclip the inside of the switchback turn foot.

All mountain trails ..Black graded trails with challenging drops and obstacles not always providing chicken runs .

Broken Road trail remains a challenging all mountain trail but the team have cleared and sorted some of the gnarly bits.
Remember the level 4 jeeptrack from the bottom of The Broken road back to Boulders has some tricky spots.

The All mountain trail ..some challenging drops with no chicken runs

Down Hill trails purposely build trails with jumps and drops to get you down the mountain as fast as possible

DH trails 1,2,3 and 4 are all looking pretty good.

The MTB trails.
Boulders trail .. looking great and the sandy sections have compacted nicely.
The Cobra trail..has had extensive repairs and repacking of certain sections..It remains a tricky Bike trail with two switchback turns so look before you leap.

Mamba trail...all good

Boomslang trail ..all good

Puffadder trail (2-way)..there's two new climbing options to bypass the rocky road on your way up Puffadder and a new bypass at the top go check it out.
Snake eyes ... has had some maintenance and running great .
Rinkhals trail..looking great the team has done wonders with new upgrades and repairs

Vasbyt trail....The drop slot at the first bit of the trail eroded again slightly but otherwise trail running great.
My Roots trail...all good
Your Roots(2-way). ..all good
Fairy Garden .(2-way)..Fantastic.
The lizard trail is a one-way trail that takes you down and back to The Vasbyt trail head; a much easier option than the current jeep track.

Squirrel/Listers trail (2-way)..Bottom section closed
The contractors are still busy on and around the Arberetum area, please obey trail closures and detours.
Please also be aware of heavy machinery being used .

The Road from the Entrance passed the Arberetum has been repaired .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Animal Chatter.
some grear raptor sightings out on the trail and i even spotted a chameleon out on the trails.
Keep an eye out for the Family of Cape mongoose that frequent the roots area.

A reminder even though our Tokai Baboon troop is relatively relaxed with passing mtbiking they should still not be fed or approached.

Besides our Tokai MTB trails there are quite a few other dedicated trails across the peninsula please use maps below for reference.

NOTICE: this is a gentle reminder to please stay on approved cycling routes in the Table Mountain National Park. It’s been brought to our attention that riders are accessing areas where cycling is not permitted.

December round-off
30/11/2025

Hi all ,
Wow! another eventful year of biking out on the Tokai trails has passed .

The fire cleared a lot of the Alien vegetation and got rid of most of the stacked and pack cleared wattle unfortunately it also took out many of the wooden structures and signage out on the Biking trails...
Then
The heavy downpours that followed as the trails were opened again caused more damage than the fire.

Throughout the year the TokaiMTB trail team battled to repair and reopen trails ,as well as having to do the 2025 upkeep ,maintenance and general repairs. They certainly accomplished the task and more.
They have finished for the year and are taking a couple of weeks off .

Well done guys .

Trail Talk 🚲

The level 5 link from Top of Broken road to the Silvermine boom entrance remains closed.
DH 0 remains closed.
The Broken road open but is still the broken road or the Beast, when it bites,so ride carefully.
The rest of the trails are all open and some of them looking better than ever.

The Cobra and All mountain trails are graded as black and are challenging.

In my opinion they are more difficult than the DH trails so please check them out first before attempting a fast run.

The Boulders trail got a complete makeover and Fairy Garden got a new bridge .
Mamba ,Boomslang and Snake eyes got some TLC and the Puffadder trail has more puff.

DH1 got reopened and is looking awesome.

In order to bypass some sections of badlly eroded jeep trail: the team have created some very enjoyable alternative bypass links.

The trail team have managed to renew most of the signage at the trailhead and exits ..however a few of the burnt posts still need to be replaced .

A huge thank-you to all the members who contributed in 2025 :through membership renewals and donations your continued support makes it possible ,for the TokaiMTB trail team to repair, rebuild and maintain existing trails.

As too a huge thank you to the private and corporate Trail head sponsors .

I think I can speak for all the members as we gratefully thank the TokaiMTB trail team for all their hard work over the passed year.🌲

Have a wonderful year end wishing you all a wonderful 2026.
