Another stray.
I did not even know.
Until the day we picked her up.
Because I did not ask.
A sleepless night.
Off leash for the first time.

Nilaq's first hike.
We still have her! 😁

My best hiking buddy of many years.
There was no day when she would not join me.
She loved people and dogs, but one day in 2024 age and cancer got the better of her.
The queen of the mountain was no more.
Then, last year I picked up an owner surrender at Wellington SPCA.
Just a puppy, one year old.
She grew into a beautiful young adult.
Filling the paw prints of the predecessor she never met.
(She still gets excited about sharing her love, please be patient)
The mountain has a new Queen!

Four dogs no one wanted.
Two owner surrenders, two strays.

It's me, Nilaq.
I was in the shelter, and two weeks ago I met a human and three dogs.
They seemed nice and happy, but then they left.
Yesterday they came back.
And they took me with them!
We went to a farm and did a long walk.
We sat for a bit with other humans and other dogs, then we went for another walk.
Then we drove to a new place.
A big garden.
And a big house.
It is warm inside, not like the shelter.
I slept inside the house, in a warm bed.
I am still a bit confused.
My new canine friends are nice, but I still have to learn their games.
I have my own human now. He is calm and gentle.
I think I like my new place.
I will let you know.

Nilaq will be coming home tomorrow.

No hike this weekend.
We went to Darling SPCA and have done the meet and greet, the paperwork, and pending the home check and Nilaq getting fixed, we will be back to a happy foursome!
Got a nice short walk in at Groote Post on the way home.
No pictures of the new puppy, we were to busy and too excited.

We started in thick fog.
It was quiet and pleasant. Only a few people later on the River Walk after the weather started to clear.
Some added adventure due to the destroyed new river bridge.
