The Ocean Race will come to the City of Cape Town in February 2023 💥 …and you’re invited to take part in the action! This edition will be the 8th consecutive stopover. 🏆
The IMOCA and VO65 fleets will undergo a full haul-out and service before they tackle Leg 3 - the longest in race history at min 12,750nm! ⛵️

Yesterday we empowered these brave seafarers to take on the wild beauty of The Ocean Race Southern Ocean Leg, with a blessing of the fleet V&A Waterfront. This will be an experience and journey that will surely stay with them forever.
The longest leg in the race's history. Leg 3 of the race from Cape Town to Itajaí, Brazil takes the fleet on a monstrous 12,750-nautical mile (14,672-mile/23,613-kilometre) Southern Ocean passage three quarters of the way around the bottom of the world.

Here are some of our highlights from yesterday's Ocean Live Park events at V&A Waterfront, Cape Town 😍
Danni Washington hosted The Ocean Science show in the morning, which was followed by The Ocean Race Genova - The Grand Finale Pesto Competition.
Later in the day, Team Malizia hosted a panel debate, with GREENBOATS Danni Washington Viva con Agua South Africa The Little Optimist
We closed the day off with an interview with Riaan Manser Explorer hosted by Jeff Ayliffe Media and then an awesome performance from The School of ROCK

Boats will do 2 laps before they set off to Itajaí with a target time for the in-shore section of 60 minutes. The boats will start a third lap and when they round mark 2 they will exit between 3&4. The course will always be set at 90º to the wind.

Today is a HUGE day in City of Cape Town & The Ocean Race history ✨ The 5 IMOCA teams will begin Leg 3 of their around-the-world race, sailing from Cape Town, South Africa to Itajaí, Brazil. 🌍🌎
This journey will take them past the 3 Capes, traveling 12,750nm, for approximately 40 days ⛵️ An incredible feat of endurance and the human spirit!

We had some of our local sailors from Royal Cape Yacht Club pop around to V&A Waterfront for our mini-lighted boat parade. ✨
The sailors were welcomed by the Rainbow sound Marimba ensemble, while The Ocean Race teams worked to get the 5 ready for today's PRO-AM sailing. ⛵
