Nathaniel decided to do something a little different for his birthday this year...

Instead of the usual birthday activities, he and his friends joined me for a fishing experience — and considering it was everyone's first time fishing, they got stuck into it pretty quickly!

There were plenty of laughs, plenty of excitement and, of course, plenty of fish.

The birthday boy Nathaniel took the honours for the biggest fish of the day, while Llewellyn somehow managed to catch the most "misbankers”.

It was a brilliant way to spend a birthday, and judging by the conversations afterwards, the boys aren't finished yet.

They’re already planning their next adventure — sea fishing!

Not a bad way to start a fishing addiction.

Boys just wanna have fun… and apparently catch 5.35 kg fish.

What started as a day of fishing and having a bit of fun turned into one seriously impressive catch.

These boys landed one of the biggest fish I’ve seen come out of the dam — 5.35 kg on the scale.

That’s not a fish anymore. That’s a small personal achievement with fins.

The smiles say it all. Great fishing, great teamwork and a memory they’re definitely going to be talking about for a while.

5.35 kg. Not bad for a day of “just having fun.”

What a day at the dam.

We started with a proper blanket of mist hiding most of the water. By the time Noah jumped out of the car, though, the mist had cleared and the fishing was on.

And what a session it turned into.

Noah landed NINE fish during the session — and, unsurprisingly, suddenly leaving was not part of the plan.

We were also joined by one of my old clients, Veer, so naturally the competition was on.

A great day, plenty of fish, a bit of friendly competition and a very happy young angler.

I’ve also been told we’ll be seeing each other again soon… so I guess I’ll be seeing if Noah can beat that nine-fish record.

Another 5-star review... I think the fish are secretly bribing our guests to leave them. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I knew it was going to be a good day when William looked like he was about to launch himself out of the car before they'd even parked.

One cast.

One fish.

His very first fish on his very first cast.

From that moment, the excitement never stopped. William went on to land an incredible 6 fish, and every catch had him grinning from ear to ear.

Melody had a great session too, landing 2 fish and unfortunately losing another 2 that clearly hadn't read the memo.

Watching confidence grow with every cast is one of the best parts of Catch Club. And judging by William's technique, I wouldn't be surprised if we're watching a future Springbok angler in the making.

Thanks for an awesome session, Melody and William. I think it's safe to say the fishing bug has officially bitten!

Ayden and Jay Dee arrived convinced fishing was easy.

Fishing had other plans.

It was their very first time holding a rod, while Veer was on his second trip... which, according to Veer, basically makes him a professional.

Jay Dee stole the show by landing 6 fish, earning himself the unofficial "Fish Magnet of the Day" award.

Veer, meanwhile, spent a while battling a bigger rod and looked ready to hand it back. Then, out of nowhere... BANG! He landed the biggest fish of the day, proving that persistence beats panic.

Sherwyn also got in on the action, and by the end of the session everyone had caught a coupe of fish, had a good laugh, and probably inhaled enough fresh air to last the week.

The best part? Sherwyn told me Veer is already planning their next fishing trip.

I'd call that another successful day at JBK Outdoors.
