ACTIVITIES
***REMEMINDER***
All the activities mounted or on ground will be adjusted and changed to fit the riders capability to ensure no/as little as possible falls during our pony camp and to be fare to all participants.
Barrel Racing:
Barrel Racing is a fun activity for everyone to enjoy even the most novice of rides.
The aim of the game is to wind around a sequence of barrels as fast as you can and get back to where you started to beat the clock or you opponent.
Novice riders will be assisted and led by a trainer.
Relay Racing.
Riders will work as a team.
Each will have a point to stand at while mounted ,waiting for their team mate to reach them and handover the object that must be carried to a specific point. Only the rider with the object in hand is allowed to be mobile.
Every one in the team must have had the object in hand and carried it to another team member, the team to get the object back where its suppose to be the fastest will be crowned winners.
Best turned out/Prettiest Pony.
Participants will have a certain amount of time to groom their ponies, plat the mane and tail (or leave it flowy if they prefer) and neaten up their ponies to make them as pretty as possible, flowers and other accessories that’s pony friendly can be used.
In the end they will stand before a panel of judges and prizes will be handed out to each rider and their pony according to what the judges decide.
Egg Balance on horseback.
Riders will be given a spoon and n egg each. The will then have to balance the egg on the spoon while walking from one point to the other, if they succeed they will then switch to a trot and balance the egg on the spoon in a trot.
Teams will also be made up and riders will have to pass the egg from one rider to another without it falling or breaking.
Pony Hunt.
Much like easter egg hunting except riders will be hunting all kinds of horsy items.
Clues will be given as to what the item is and the rider has to figure out the clue in order to know what he/she is hunting.
Musical chairs on horseback.
Like musical chairs riders will ask their horse to move when the music starts and when it stops riders will have to dismount and find the closest chair to sit on before some one else takes the seat, each round a chair will be taken away.
For the very novice riders we will have musical chairs without them having to dismount.
Theme day.
Every once a week there will be a theme day, riders will have to dress up in their craziest themed outfit .
Theme days will be every Wednesday.
First week Wednesday theme: Cowboys and Cowgirls.
Second week Wednesday theme: Character out of your favourite movie.
Third week Wednesday theme: Funny shoes and/or hat day.
(wear the funniest shoes and/or hat you own, it can be decorated with feathers, dots, glitter or anything else you can find to make yours unique)
Red light green light.
This is a simple game testing the riders ability to give the pony the correct aid and have him/her respond to the rider as quick as possible.
All ponies will be lined up next to each other at the starting line. When the instructor yells green light the riders will have to get their horse moving at the fastest possible pace that they are comfortable with, when the instructor yells red light riders will have to bring their pony to a halt.
This game works by disqualification, if the rider fails to get their pony to move or to stop they will be disqualified and have to wait till the next round.
First rider to pas the instructor wins.
Musical freestyle.
Riders can pick a song of their choice from the list provided, they will then have to workout a routine with their pony, mounted or on the ground.
Simon says.
Simon says is a well known game.
Wat ever Simon says the rider does, wat ever any one else says the riders must not do. Riders failing to only listen to simon will have to wait for the next round to take part again.
Ba****ck day.
Ba****ck days will also be held. Riding ba****ck once in a while allows the rider to connect to the horse and feel the movement of the horse underneath them.
As a rider you must be able to become one with your horse and riding ba****ck helps this by letting the rider feel the movement of the muscles in the back making it easier to communicate with the horse.
However if the rider is not yet experienced enough they will be led by an instructor or have to ride with a saddle.
Rainy days.
On rainy days we urge our riders to still attend pony camp, we will be working inside.
This will include ,theory ,practical and arts and crafts.
We will be working on improving every child’s pony knowledge and have fun colouring and drawing tools.
The activities named above are only a few of the many fun things we will be doing during our pony camp, come and join us for a day full of laughter and fun.
