New sponsors were announced, and a huge milestone for women in sailing was revealed— Alexforbes is proudly backing the all-female RCYC Academy team, as well as the official Race Sponsor! With media, ambassadors, and consuls in attendance, the Mayor of Cape Town highlighted the strong bond between Cape Town and Brazil, reinforcing the race’s legacy. The RCYC Sailing Academy and Vitor Medina were honoured to attend the City of Cape Town’s Safety and Security Portfolio Committee monthly meeting, chaired by Councillor Mzwakhe Nqavashe.

After observing insightful discussions among politicians from various parties, they were warmly introduced. The screening of the Ukuwela trailer followed and Sibu Sizatu (RCYC Sailing instructor and lead character of Ukuwela film) shared the Academy's journey to Rio on ArchAngel. Jennifer Burger (Academy Manager) provided further details about the Academy's mission and operations, and Vitor Medina, the Chairman of the upcoming Cape2Rio Race, highlighted the City of Cape Town’s historical involvement in the event.

The meeting concluded with engaging questions from across the political spectrum, leaving us optimistic and excited about the City’s interest in the Cape2Rio Race and its potential to raise awareness of sailing as a sport, and especially the RCYC Sailing Academy.
