Parent Infant Attachments Counsellor (two positions)
The Parent centre is a Non-Profit, primary preventative organisation offering comprehensive parenting counselling, education and support service based in Wynberg, Cape Town.
This employment opportunity is open to suitably qualified applicants with experience as a community worker or counsellor or Parent Infant counsellor who resides in Maitland to Milnerton, Khayelitsha, and Mitchells Plain.
Duties will include:
• Conduct community outreach and recruit clients through clinics and community-based organisations (CBOs).
• Facilitate weekly Pregnancy and Early Childhood Parenting talks at Midwife Obstetric Units (MOUs) or Community Health Centres.
• Build and maintain relationships with clinic staff and key stakeholders.
• Manage client referrals (self and clinic-based) and report to Supervisor.
• Submit a detailed report on each clinic talk, including topics and content covered.
• Conduct home visits and follow up on allocated cases.
• Submit weekly schedules, monthly statistics and reports as required.
• Ensure all required client signatures are recorded to confirm visits or attendance.
• Maintain accurate client records and attendance registers.
• Follow up promptly on cases allocated during weekly supervision sessions.
Essential qualifications and experience required:
• Grade 12 or higher.
• At least 1 to 2 years of accredited training in lay counselling.
• 3 - 5 years’ experience in community work or counselling.
• Valid Code 08 driver’s licence (advantageous).
• Fluent in English and/or Afrikaans/IsiXhosa.
• Parenting experience.
These posts need strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as an ability to work sensitively with vulnerable families. This post needs someone who can work independently with good organisational and record-keeping skills. They need an ability to maintain professional boundaries and have strong community engagement and outreach skills.
We work with parents so it would be advantageous that you are a parent. This post needs good time management, self-discipline and an ability to work collaboratively and engage in supervision
